August 27.2018
Mars Direct

The tension has been building. The energy of forward motion has been building. And, now the champagne is ready to celebrate as we pop the cork on a rare vintage of Mars retrograde.

Mars stationed Retrograde on June 26.2018 in the astrological sign of Aquarius. This astrological mantle gave an additional visionary perspective to an already very palpable and aggressive flow from Mars bringing an intellectual and and very mental approach to any action taken. This retrograde occurred within the day prior aura of a Capricorn Full Moon, which ensured that as Mars entered into this stationary state of appearance Air (Aquarius) and Earth (Capricorn) stood in the spotlight of the Full Moon’s watery and emotional glow.

Now, as Mars propels forward it ends its retrograde in a 28th (latter) degree of astrological Capricorn; earth finally having caught up with the intensity of Mars need to act and exert its will. Any retrograde brings an opportunity for introspection. Mars offers the gift of taking a deep look at how much force we exert as we move through the world. Are we coming from a state of aggression or assertiveness? And, learning how to modulate the intensity of this action to produce the most productive (negative or positive) outcomes. The bolster to this came from last night’s Full Moon in astrological Pisces; compassion filled water enhanced by its ruling planet Neptune’s retrograde and Mother Moon’s ebb and flow.

This Mars retrograde has been no less intense, and the astrological events that we have weathered during this retrograde have been transformative, to say the least. Rare eclipses, 6 retrograde planets and more have amped up everyone’s physical, mental and spiritual states. The recent Mercury retrograde and direct (Aug. 17-18) pattern put a halt on frivolous communication, allowed time to slow time and review before reaching and with the direct action, to carry forward what we have learned of the lessons of meaning and intention-filled dialogue.

Now, with the release of Mars’ stronghold, we are slingshot into action honed by a temporary fencing in provided by the Fixed Air of Aquarius (think and then think again-before acting) and flowing into the Cardinal (quickening) Earth energy of Capricorn’s sure footed goat; hopefully being able to navigate the heights and the depths from a place of stability. What began as the active vision of mind’s vision of the ascended human was brought into more palpable and tangible action to be en-acted in the manifest world, by one of spiritually corporeal form.

So, raise a toast and pop that cork as you celebrate a new found ability to move in accord with all parts of your being. Another layer of energy refined as we remain under the spell of a foundational four planetary retrograde of Saturn-Uranus-Neptune and Pluto…

Full Moon-Lunar Eclipse and Retrograde Mars Opposition! Envision That!

Full Moon in Aquarius
4:20p.m. (EDT)

Total Lunar Eclipse
Begins 6:24p.m. (UTC)
Peak 8:22p.m. (UTC)
Ends 10:19p.m. (UTC)

Sun in Leo
Retrograde Mars in Aquarius

To say that there is a lot going on today in the celestial skies above would be an understatement. Full Moons always shake things up a bit; the ebb and flow of the Lunar tides calling us into the presence and space of our intuitive nature. The dance of opposing energies that play out between the Moon and Sun-always this choreographed movement during a Full Moon – engage our Will and Strength (Sun) to exert just enough tension (opposition) with our more Nurturing and Heart-Felt (Moon) state of being to make for interesting dynamics and the opportunity for renewed perspective about the role each of these Lunar and Solar qualities have in our life’s experience.

Add a Total Lunar Eclipse (not a usual event) where the Moon turns red as it passes in its entirety through the shadow of the Earth, now poised mid-point between Sun and Moon. You could also say that to some degree the Earth metaphorically becomes the point of fulcrum between either spectrum of placement of Sun and Moon. It is after all the focal point of our world view.

And, just to make things interesting, retrograde Mars; another expression of will and action that asserts and inserts itself where it is needed, is in a rare alignment joining the oppositions created by the Moon and Earth, and is placed in opposition to the Leo Sun’s charismatic magnetism. Whew! What a configuration for envisioning action (Mars) infused by w(W)ill and cooled by a lunarscape of visionary breath. Let me break that thought down for you…

Sun in Astrological Leo

Five days ago (July 22nd) we transitioned from the comfort of a solar month of watery astrological Cancer into the fires of astrological Leo. Leo is ruled by the Sun, so the energy during this solar month is always heated, electrically charged and serves as a place to exert yourself and stand in the bright light of your will-filled power. Leo is after all the Lion that issues the warning roar of protection and can be the most tender of beasts for those it brings into its pride.

Full Moon in Astrological Aquarius

Just as the Sun stands in light and a power that is laden with sheer will, action and strength, the Moon offers the necessary healing and care that the fluidity of ebb and flow (contraction and expansion) offers just as the waters of the oceans cradle and guard the life that is abundant within them. Aquarius is primed as a sign of Air to stimulate those waters, fill them with life-sustaining oxygen and change the cause of direction to one that can only be imagined and envisioned as to what that final reach may impact. There is a wisdom that now flows in the light of the Full Moon that can become the milky scrying surface that disperses the clouds of illusion and sets its sights on what can be-come.

Retrograde Mars in Astrological Aquarius

Mars is vibrant, pure action and the dynamism of assertion driven purely by self-motivated will. How that will out-pictures is the sticking point within Mar’s energy and also the reason for the often bad rap that Mars gets as being overly aggressive in force. We tend to gather around those ideals that reflect harmonious and peaceful sentiments, but the reality is that too much passiveness is just as detrimental towards real growth and forward momentum as too much force. Finding and fueling the skills of self-awareness and moderation allow for the use of both standing your ground and charging full speed ahead, adapting with flexibility and in accord with what is necessary for the imagined outcome. The additional potency of Mars being retrograde can be thought of as an opportunity to really think and feel before acting. Yes, things will feel uncomfortable, because any Retrograde brings an intensity of introspection on those qualities that are in resonance with the planet’s raw energy. And, I would also add that awareness of this Mars retrograde, particularly in light of the state of affairs both domestically and globally, can be used productively in thinking and feeling before you react in a way that fuels and feeds the fires you are most strongly opposed to.

Alignments, Oppositions and Full Moon Intentions

This is one way to use the energy and power of this cosmic opportunity. Imagine yourself as the embodiment of the Earth; stable, strong and life-sustaining as vessel and abode for your own humanity. The Moon fills you with the light of its fullness, the wisdom of its intuitive vision and you engulf it in the shadow of your embrace. You stand facing the beauty of this Moon’s grace and the red blush of blood’s wisdom and love’s ardor moves through the milky white peaks of cresting waves of insight. Breathe into this wisdom and into the space of Earth.

You feel, also the heat of the Sun behind you. The strength and charge of its magnificence and brilliance of its never-ending Light pour onto and into you. That which is your primal nature of protection and ferocity peaks and you are empowered in a way that pulses with magnetic resonance.

Energy wells up within you and you are called to action as Mars aligns with you; Moon, Mars and Earth, now receiving from one another as the Sun shines in a line of opposition to you. The power of movement and action loosened what has held you inert and feeling powerless. And, the wisdom of seeing multiple outcomes from your actions (Mars in Aquarius), now seeps into you, stirring you, awakening you.

A Final Thought…

Fire (Sun, Leo, Mars) and Air (Aquarius) prime the Waters (Moon) of the Earth we have manifested, inhabit and embody. The tension created between that Fire and Air (Leo and Aquarius) are the reminder that to be in opposition means that what may fan the flames may also extinguish. The message here is that temperance and allowing each to find its place of dominance. This tension is one that brought the cosmos into being, and if we are not mindful and respectful will cause irreparable change and destruction.

Blessings of this Celestially Auspicious Date!

An Eclipse of the Heart-New Moon in Cancer

Posted in Auspicious Days, Eclipses, New Moon on July 12, 2018 by themagickalpen

New Moon in Cancer
10:48p.m. (EDT)

Partial Solar Eclipse
9:48p.m. (EDT)

Lady Moon begins her new journey towards fullness tonight at 10:48p.m. (EDT) as she wears the cloak of astrological Cancer’s soothing home. As with each New Moon, the Sun and Moon share the same astrological sign and in this case the heartbeat of Mother Moon will move more deeply across the face of Father Sun as the second Solar (Partial) Eclipse of 2018 occurs beginning at 9:48p.m. (EDT).

A New Moon signifies an opportunity to reset or begin a new path towards what you wish to bring into fruition and fullness at the next phase of Full Moon. This may take several iterations for completion or simply be a goal that is easily fulfilled within one lunar month’s cycles of New/Full/Dark Waning. Now, dress that intention with whatever astrological sign Lady Moon is wearing. This moon wears the watery face of Cancer and appropriately this astrological sign is Cardinal in modality, which gives an added boost to starting things anew. The Cardinal Modality is one of initiating and catalyzing whatever is set upon its course. The aspect of water here is one of support offered by the Moon Herself, as Queen and holder of the mysteries of deep emotion, healing, intuitive openings and all that pulls at the heartstrings of ebb and flow. Cancer adds the quick start of water that lay close to home and hearth, and gently ripples through all that we know and call family, support and home. This is the space of emotional security.

The Solar energy of astrological Cancer, now at its mid-point, acts as the supportive Father providing just enough heat and movement to initiate an offspring that will bask in the security of Mother (Moon in Cancer) and Father (Sun) who seek the best integration of heart (water) and will (fire) used appropriately to effect change and growth.

A Partial Solar Eclipse:

….“An eclipse of the Sun (or solar eclipse) can only occur at New Moon when the Moon passes between Earth and Sun. If the Moon’s shadow happens to fall upon Earth’s surface at that time, we see some portion of the Sun’s disk covered or ‘eclipsed’ by the Moon. Since New Moon occurs every 29 1/2 days, you might think that we should have a solar eclipse about once a month. Unfortunately, this doesn’t happen because the Moon’s orbit around Earth is tilted 5 degrees to Earth’s orbit around the Sun. As a result, the Moon’s shadow usually misses Earth as it passes above or below our planet at New Moon. At least twice a year, the geometry lines up just right so that some part of the Moon’s shadow falls on Earth’s surface and an eclipse of the Sun is seen from that region.

The Moon’s shadow actually has two parts:

1. Penumbra – The Moon’s faint outer shadow. Partial solar eclipses are visible from within the penumbral shadow.
2. Umbra – The Moon’s dark inner shadow.Total solar eclipses are visible from within the umbral shadow.
When the Moon’s penumbral shadow strikes Earth, we see a partial eclipse of the Sun from that region.”… Read More at MrEclipse.com

A (partial) Eclipse of the Heart:

…..”The partial solar eclipse of July 13, 2018, will take place almost entirely over open water. Because the eclipse will arrive during the Southern Hemisphere’s winter, most of Antarctica will be experiencing “polar nights.” During these periods, the sun does not rise for days, weeks or months at a time. But the partial solar eclipse will briefly pass over the illuminated edge of the continent that lies just south of Australia. Skywatchers on the very southern coasts of Australia and New Zealand might catch brief views of the eclipse.

This partial eclipse will begin at 9:48 p.m. EDT on July 13 (0148 GMT on July 12), reaching its maximum magnitude of 0.3367 at 11:01 p.m. EDT (0301 GMT). Eclipse magnitude is what fraction of the sun’s diameter is covered by the moon”…. Read More at Space.com

I thought this was quite interesting when I read the above, given the potential for this New Moon and seeking what will serve as the starters for healing. The intimate exchange between Sun and Moon occurs over a space of open water. Perhaps, this is the space of our personal awakening of a heartscape that is receptive to moving calmly along the tides’s rise and fall. Emotions flare and ebb, just as the tides and in the current environment it is all too easy to allow emotions to flood through us, submerging us in waters that churn in an unproductive cycle of anger, mistrust and disbelief.

I choose to turn my intent towards the dreams, hopes, healing and wishes (Moon) that arise as I bask in the solar enlivening energy, rising higher from the manifest world (Earth) of form. Or, another way to think on this is that I choose to let heart (Moon) and will (Sun) move into the dane of the Higher Self in communication (Middle Self) with all that I am in this physical space of Earthy flesh, bone and mind that seeks healing and hope. I choose an eclipse of the heart that catalyzes change…

What will you choose?

The Raging Bull: Full Moon in Scorpio

Posted in Astrology, Auspicious Days, Full Moon, Jupiter, Pluto, Retrogrades, Saturn, Scorpio on April 27, 2018 by themagickalpen

April 29.2018
Full Moon in Scorpio
8:58p.m. (EDT)

Sun in Taurus

The moon waxes full on Sunday, April 29th in the astrological sign of Scorpio. So, you may be wondering why my title for this post alludes to the bull of Taurus. This reference is made because there are a whole lot of dynamics occurring between elemental water and earth right now and many are getting stuck in the mud as you struggle to break free….

The moon is Full wearing the garb of watery Scorpio and is in opposition to a Sun that burns hotly in earthly and robust Taurus. Both are signs of a Fixed modality which means that there is staying power to whatever/wherever their energy is applied. The annual solar month of Taurus inherently offers the ability to stand strong in what you have created as your foundational and earthy realm; finances, possessions, relationships and anything that provides grounding and anchor to you thrive in Taurus’ light. The flip side is that this stalwart and very earthy energy can also encourage you to remain stuck in what has become outworn and “comfortable” but not necessarily productive. We are almost at the mid-point of this energy, which means that we may also access a more mature level of understanding as to how and what we choose to acquire as manifest space in our lives, and what should be left behind. These thoughts are the first layer of this current earth-water dynamic.

The Moon, already ripe and full with emotion and watery flow, is in Fixed Scorpio’s waters that ebb and flow through multi-layers of transformative outpouring. We have choice to remain guarded, hidden and introspective as the Scorpion of this sign’s energy; rise upwards into the light as the Eagle choosing a path that is more discerning in how those waters flow; or take the leap of faith required as the Phoenix renders to ash what it has laid bare and rises anew as a the stable current of fiery waters that carves out its own emotional landscape. Scorpio has always been one of those astrological signs that presents more like Fire than true Water; but then again, all of the elemental energies carry varying amounts of each of the other within them. This Fixed water of Scorpio can flow in a directed course or enter into stagnation o the desire to move is not appropriately placed. This provides the second layer of the current earth-water dynamic.

I mentioned earlier that the Sun and Moon are in opposition to one another. This is the traditional configuration of a Full Moon in alignment with the Solar Sign. Many hear opposition and identify this with conflict and avoidance. I have never perceived it that way. In fact, I view any opposition as an organic and healthy dialogue between polarized energies that seek a state of tension so that one or the other may find resolution at the appropriate point of interchange. Depending on the intention and what outcome may be needed, one may reach across and almost touch that id-point of equilateral balance, but this never quite happens in a moving state- the perfect mid-point actually meaning a stagnant place of stillness where neither receives the neutrality of a catalyst to transform the other. In the case of this Taurus and Scorpio exchange, the tension is one of manifest foundation (Taurus) striving towards the adaptability of transformation at multi-levels of being (Scorpio), and with each iteration of the application of tension, a newly created form emerges. A good analogy is to consider the birth of a Butterfly emerging from the cocoon, having shed the foundational blueprint of it caterpillar form.

Assistance from the Retrogrades:
Any retrograde is an opportunity to give more scrutiny and care to the energies emanating from that Planet. It is typified as a slowing down of the planetary orbit and as such provides a closer look at what could be tweaked, reshaped and reformed. Three (3) planets are currently Retrograde- Two in Earth signs and One in Water

Jupiter is Retrograde in Scorpio, so we have a resonance between the Great Expander and the Full Moon. Jupiter is noted for its expansive quality and much like the ebb and flow of the Moon’s tides, Jupiter also breathes in a rhythm of contraction and expansion. This is why Jupiter is often used for financial matters. There is an organic flow that moves through what we consider to be prosperity and the times of contraction (or lack) are necessary to allow for the bounty and prosperity to fill the coffers of what you desire. The gift here is one of harnessing this expansive nature as with each incremental striving towards the transformative power of Scorpio’s Phoenix, we provide time to rest and integrate within the “in breath/inspiration” gift in the contraction back to itself.

Saturn and Pluto are Retrograde in Capricorn, the earth sign of potential. Potential to reach deeply into the depths of emotions waters and the ability to retrieve and bring to the surface and higher what has been made manifest and revealed as the Sea-Goat navigates the heights of breath and mind. Saturn provides structure and orderly guidance as it oversees the process of pitfalls and failures. Unfortunately it can also become stuck and sluggish in advancement, not trusting that what is provided is enough.

Pluto is the planet of regeneration and concerns itself with death so that life may continue. I also seePluto’s energies as those of being able to reach into the far past, bring forward the necessary experiences and lessons as a new future is being created from the point of synthesis that wraps and enfolds the present. It too is in earthy Capricorn, and the potential for use this energy in a lateral way to further guide your efforts is potent in a retrograde focus.

The Raging Bull

In all of these cases, there is a pulse of rhythm, a natural ebb and flow/contraction and expansion/descent and ascent that is flowing through these solar charged waters. This is the Bull of the Taurean Sun, that is not content to stand still and in its movement causes upheaval and what appears to be collateral damage, but in so doing affirms life in its most manifest and passionate way. This is also a call to allow your primal nature to light the way, as the intuitive waters of Scorpio’s heart fuel your course with passion. Breathe into this ability to be adaptable (Moon in Scorpio) and stretch and reach (Jupiter in Scorpio) towards the Gates that hold the keys (Pluto in Capricorn) to what has been learned and what can be created with your intention. These are the Gates that provide the foundational structure Saturn in Capricorn)that may become the blueprint of success as you navigate these challenging times.

Lest you have the image of negative connotation in the word, “raging” my hint to you is held in the protective nature that is held in Taurus energy. Protective of home, family and those things that are the manifest image of that state of security and comfort. The raging bull is the guardian of all you hold dear and spiritually, it is the keeper of a wisdom that gifts its user with anchors that reach deeply into a manifest reality of your own highest creation.

Blessings of this Full Moon… Robin

Rekindling Hope! Full Moon in Aries

Posted in Astrology, Auspicious Days, Esbat, Full Moon, Libra, Retrogrades, Uranus on October 4, 2017 by themagickalpen

October 5.2017
Full Moon in Aries
2:40p.m.(EDT)

The Harvest Moon glows brightly and large in the night sky on Thursday in the astrological sign of Cardinal Fire, Aries. This moon brings with it the fires of new beginnings (Cardinal) around how we choose to act ( or react) and exert our will. And, it also brings the gift of refreshing the fires that hold us strong in our power.

The Harvest Moon is the full moon closest in date to the Autumnal Equinox (September 22.2017, this year). So, we might say that esoterically, this Full Moon brings with it the energy of a balanced point of space (the Equinox) allowing for the synthesis and integration of what has preceded it and flowing into what will come. This is also bolstered by the annual transit of the Sun into Libra, balance of mind and refinement of what evolves and flows into the next solar month of Scorpio.

We are all feeling charred and dampened down in spirit after the events of these past two months. Natural disasters, irrational and deadly behaviors and everywhere loss of life and or the security of home. We have all been effected by these, whether we have been in the midst of the crisis or safe and secure watching from afar; we are all part of the human experience and condition. And, so we feel the rippling out of waves of fear and loss of hope.

This full moon is an opportunity to revisit the enthusiasm and unstoppable hope that the innocence of childhood brings. Aries, is the first sign of the Great Wheel and being Cardinal Fire is the catalytic first spark that sets into motion the story woven through each of the astrological signs and stages of development that occur from there forward. It is exactly this energy that we can use to reset our emotions and feed and reignite the flame of hope we carry within.

Uranus Retrograde

The planet, Uranus, carries the full pulse of electrical charge that is the higher amplification of Mercury’s communicative flash. Its energy is one of pure impulse and works directly on the neural pathways. The Uranus retrograde ( since August 2nd – January 2.2018) has methodically exposed the raw nerve that electrifies our neurological system and the resultant flight or fight instinct. As events have been amping up in intensity and impulsiveness, our autonomic responses have also been heightened. Let’s scale that electrical impulse back a bit and allow the Moon in Aries to cancel out some of the overwhelming charge.

Aries is ruled by the planet Mars, another reactionary energy whose prime directive is that of action and movement. What is often overlooked with Mars energy is that we have choice as to whether we move forward, charging blindly ahead and without a plan or take the time to fuel the fires of its action in a planned and intention-filled way that will pull us forward and out of the mire that weighs us down without simply spinning our wheels in futile anxiety driven effort. So, what I am proposing is to allow Uranus to open the pathways and then fill them with the inspiration of Aries’ fires of renewal and let them flush through the darkened emotion ladened waters (Moonscape) bringing light and a vision of hope that is guided by youth’s undaunted spirit.

The Sun in Libra

The Libran Sun seeks balance and the restoring of harmony filtered through the conceptualization of thought (Libra is an Air sign). Add this to the mix of renewed hope and clarity and let the strengthening of the Sun restore balance and allow you to see with clarity and purpose. In this way, we are able to choose our battles, speak on behalf of those who have lost their voice, contribute our energy to restoring hope to those who have lost the most and much, much more. In other words, refill your storehouse so that you have the reserves needed when you are called upon to help another.

I stand outside bathed in a warm glow of light and the Harvest Moon whispers to me…

I know your secrets
I know your joys
I know your sorrows
I know who you are.

I have seen all that
Has been is and will be.

I have seen evolution and growth
Devolution and decay
And the ebb and flow of
My waters have brought from
The sea of creation life that
Will begin the cycle anew.

Peace and community
War and famine
Building and destruction
Wisdom and arrogance.

I have know all of these
Things and yet I remain
Watchful and filled with hope
For the potential I see.

The land is filled with
Potential for what the next
Planting and harvest will bring.

You are filled with potential for
What your next actions and offerings
Will bring.

I know your secrets and now
You know my mysteries and the
Gift of your place within them.

I invite you to take 25 minutes and join me in a pathworking to stabilize and refuel as the Harvest Moon looms large and glows with the warming orange light of renewal.

The Solar Eclipse of Great Shadow

Posted in Astrology, Auspicious Days, Lunar, Mercury, Neptune, Pluto, Retrogrades, Saturn, Solar, Uranus on August 17, 2017 by themagickalpen

August 21.2017

New Moon in Leo
Total Solar Eclipse in Leo

Many are primed and focused on this upcoming Eclipse and much has already been written about it. And, given many of the recent events both nationally and internationally, more has been written about the connections, etc. So, for what it is worth, here is a very simple take on how this energy has potential to be used and the far more long reaching impact of other astrological occurrences that will carry forward what is taken from the eclipse.

The astrological energy of Leo is one that can be particularly challenging, especially if applied to raw and exposed neurological matter. Meaning that we have all been amped up neurologically in a very deliberate and evolutionary way for some time now. Think technology and how much has progressed in such a short amount of time, almost to the point where we are unable to keep pace with the advancements. Now, think about everything within you that responds in much the same way as technology and requires upgrading and modification to keep pace with the increasing pressures we feel to meet all of the demands of a fast-paced society and its expectations.

Leo is the Lion who when on the hunt, will mercilessly take down its prey fueled by a heat and intensity that is ferocious, primal and self-centered. Add to this emotional landscapes (Lunar) that are either overflowing or severely depleted from the parching of heated reaction and the boiling point is soon reached. Neurons fire and we lash out taking down whatever lay in front of us- primal, instinctual. I am not making these observations as good, bad or neutral. They just simply are and how they are rallied and used determines the identification that is placed upon them as being of one kind or another.

With that being said, I view this Eclipse as a space to be used for moving into the shade offered by the cloaking of our intuitive/emotional (Moon) as we wrap its density around, for many, what feel like battered (energetically, physically or metaphorically) bodies (Earth). And, in opposition to ramping up and drawing from the potency of the Sun, I am suggesting dimming your fires, pulling them within and allowing the shadow of the Moon to pass uneventfully, carrying forward none of the precious Light that we will need in the months (perhaps years) ahead.

Nothing occurs in isolation and this is especially true of the energy being emitted by five (5) planets as they are in varying progress in their Retrograde stations. Five (5) is the number of change. CHANGE that occurs through radical measures and pushing the boundaries of we we believe to be our carefully laid foundations. This is change that reaches deeply when applied to ourself. And, given all of the choices and changes occurring in our world, our beliefs, values and ethics are being pushed to their boundaries daily.

In that regard, the power of this infrequently occurring Eclipse and the additional planetary energies at play are demanding that find the courage of the Lion and master and hone our instinctual nature to be of service for the greater good of all.

Whether we choose to align that energy in a partnership of bolstering and stabilizing is entirely up to the individual and what you are hoping to achieve of strength and stability moving forward…..

Retrogrades of Contractive Focus

Saturn in Astrological Sagittarius  (Mutable FIRE)
(Flexible and Expansive) Order and Structure casting a Broad Net
End Stage Intensity (Mutable-Cardinal) Direct: August 25

Mercury in Astrological Virgo   (Mutable EARTH)
(Flexible and Expansive) Communication that is Analytical and Orderly
Retrograde – 3/4 Stage (Mutable) Direct: September 5

Uranus in Astrological Aries   (Cardinal FIRE)
(Initiating) Electromagnetic Catalytic Beginnings
Beginning (Cardinal) Direct: January 2.2018

Neptune in Astrological Pisces   (Mutable WATER)
The (Flexible and Expansive) Illusory Depths of Compassionate Grace
Mid Stage (Fixed) Direct: November 22

Pluto in Astrological Capricorn   (Cardinal EARTH)
(Initiating) Death and Rebirth Converging into An Anchored Center
Mid Stage Direct: September 28

In this configuration of planetary astrological signs, we have all but AIR (which would add the ration of reason and logic) represented within the intense focused energy of the retrograde planets. And, the modality that provides stability and a vessel of synthesis of what in Cardinal (beginning) flow enters into it and what as Mutable (flexible, and connective) receives its more refined product is represented by the Major players of Sun and Moon in Fixed Leo (Fixed and un-relentless Fire).

Find your place of shade and peer at the sun through well protected glasses…
The natural inclination when something is trying to hide your light (voice, will, fill in the blanks) is to stoke those fires even more. This generally out-pictures as reactionary defense. This shadow of passing will eclipse the light for its duration regardless of how you struggle to amplify your fires of re-action. Remain steady and as the shadow moves in place, look deeply and introspectively into what lay in the depths of your inner fire. And, offer up freely to this shadow what you wish to have it absorb from you that will encourage a greater clarity (and appreciation) of where the fiery tendrils of your Will need to be extended.

And, The Day After….

August 22.2017
Sun and Moon Transit into a Solar Month of Virgo (Mutable Earth)

This is the month to sort through, analyze and get all of your ducks in a row in the areas of Will and action (the Solar Principle) and Heart and emotion (The Lunar Principle). If you have emerged from the shadow of the Eclipse and did not allow its flares to overheat and agitate, you can make good use of this time to take a closer look at any rough surfaces and imperfections that can be refined and reshaped to be more closely in alignment with what your beliefs and values truly are. Think of a jeweler with magnifying eyepiece and forehead lamp, scrutinizing very carefully the rough stone that will become the gem of great worth with further polishing and refinement. You are that gem and the light of the Sun and your honest evaluation of all you are and who you wish to become are just waiting to be smoothed and polished.

A Visionary Full Moon and the Eclipses

Posted in Auspicious Days, Full Moon on August 7, 2017 by themagickalpen

August 7.2017
Full Moon in Aquarius
2:11 p.m. (EDT)

Lunar Eclipse
Peak of the Eclipse 2:20 (EDT)

The Moon waxed full today at 2:11p.m. in the Airy astrological sign of Aquarius. Additionally a lunar eclipse is in the works as the Moon passes behind the Earth in its orbit leaving earth center point between it and the Sun.

For most, today’s events pale in comparison to the hype surrounding the upcoming Total Solar Eclipse during the New Moon phase on August 21st. Nonetheless, you have to start at point A to reach point B. So, here we are cloaked in the fullness of a Moon that is visionary and strives towards the highest good for all.

Each Full Moon stands directly across (or in opposition to) from the the Solar month’s astrological sign. There is an organic tension that occurs between these signs of opposition, but there is also more similarity underpinning their true energy than is commonly noted.

In this case, we have the Sun’s strength found in Leo, the Lion; which is also the ruling astrological sign of the Sun. The pure force of leonine energy and its instinctual drive towards claiming its king(queen)ship is un-relentless in its intention-filled action towards that end goal. This is a Sun that is pure magnetism and the well-noted charismatic quality of astrological Leo shines fully in this highly individual pursuit of reigning supreme. This is a sign of Fire.

Now, here is the beauty of its opposing Moon in Aquarius. Aquarius possesses the vision and ability to see all paths leading to an intended goal and with the speed of light, process, analyze and sort the solution and the result- for the highest good of all. The needs of the individual are not the directive, and therefore there is no desire to achieve individual glory and power from what Aquarius sees as a narrow lens of perspective. This is a sign of Air; which either feeds the individuality of Leo and makes it all that more charismatic or extinguishes its power as objectivity reveals the pitfalls of that charismatic Leo ruler.

In the case of the Full Moon in Aquarius emotions make the third partner in a dance between Fiery (willful and active) Sun and Airy (head strong) Moon. The fullness of the Moon’s waters join Fire and Air, Will and Mind to align with the heart-scape; soothing and cooling what overheats of prideful action and non-attached thought.

The Partial Lunar Eclipse:

A Lunar Eclipse occurs when the Moon passes through the shadow of the Earth as it is lit from behind by the Sun. The usual orbit of the Moon is just far enough off the Earth/Solar plane that the Moon makes its journey avoiding the shadow of the Earth casts.  The eclipse places the Sun directly behind the Earth as the Moon moves into the position within Earth’s shadow. This afternoon’s eclipse will be a Partial Eclipse meaning that the Moon passes through the an edge of the Earth’s shadow from 1:22pm to 3:18pm (EDT).  The refraction of light occurring from the filtering of earth’s atmosphere as light shines directly from the Sun behind the earth causes a natural progression of changing the moon’s coloring from the creamy white of a normal Full Moon to a reddish brown coloring of the moon as the eclipse event takes place. The Moon returns to its milky whiteness as She basks in the full shining of Sun upon her face.

For lots of great information about eclipses and, in particular this eclipse go to: mreclispse.com.  This site has everything you want to know about the astronomy of Solar and Lunar Eclipses.

If we consider the spiritual implications of the eclipse energy we are able to call upon the energies of Will (Sun), Manifestation and Foundation (Earth) and intuitive Heart (Moon). In the placement of the Lunar Eclipse, Earth receives the direct outpouring of the sun’s energy as its reflective back light of emanation towards the Moon’s surface. Divine Will (our Spiritual Sun) is brought to a place of manifest and practical use as we, as physical beings, are especially enlivened by its solar principle and dynamic of energy.

The reflection of this shadow of light emanates out towards the moon in her phase of fullness through the filter of Earth (and opportunity to bring it to manifestation). This refraction of sun’s light refines the matters of heart and quickens in a subtle yet profound way of application as it passes through the earth shadow of our form imbuing the Full Moon energy with the hidden resources of what lay at our inner sun’s core. Drawing this light shadow that holds the mysteries of our internal lunarscape into the intuitive waters that flow in the intermittent dimming (the frequency of the Lunar Eclipses) of its full potential provides the space of accessing those qualities that strengthen the aspects of our manifest nature that lay in the shadows and enliven these by emotional and intuitive insight so they may be used in a more practical manner as they are brought to the fullness of their potential. Who we are in the strength (Sun) of our manifest form (Moon) and the will we call forth empowers these deep waters of our intuitive nature (Moon).

Given the astrological signs that Sun and Moon are in, this eclipse and the addition of Earth’s energy creates a perfect quad of elemental energy:

Sun’s Fire in the Fire of Leo
Moon’s Waters reflected in the Air of Aquarius
Earth‘s manifest Being amplified as the center point of receipt

Fire and Water – Air and Earth; Will/Action –  Mind – Heart  received within the vessel of Manifest Earth…

all aligned and strengthened by the pure flow of energy and light of exchange! Pretty cool, huh!

And, of course all of this energy waning towards the New Moon and a Total Solar Eclipse on August 21st…

NASA has a really cool app and desktop version of a 3D simulation of the Total Solar Eclipse….

Welcome to Eyes on the 2017 Eclipse! In this interactive, 3D simulation of the total eclipse of August 21st, 2017, you can see a view of the eclipse from anywhere on the planet.

I leave you with this meditative writing on this powerful day…

Mother Moon reached out Her hand
And cradled the the vessel of form
Soothing its unsettling changes.

Father Sun stretched fiery strands
Reaching deep into the vessel of form’s
Core reminding it that strength and
Light are its birth right.

The dance of tension between
Mother and Father
Sun and Moon
Will and Heart
Wove its energy
Around the form that
Contained all life.

When all was complete
And the waters of the Mother
Rippled from the breath of vision
A new blueprint was crafted
That affirmed the Divine gifts
That flowed through the Spirit
And lives of Earth…..

What If? New Moon in Cancer

New Moon in Cancer
10:31p.m. (EDT)

Sun in Cancer

This New Moon is hot on the heels of Wednesday’s Summer Solstice (6.22.2017) and Solar Transition into the astrological sign of Cancer. Cancer is all about family, home, security, feeling valued and feeling safe. Everything that we all hope for in our earthly existence and much of how those things play out in our lives are based on the nebulous balance of control and surrender.

We have emerged from the day of the Summer Solstice, basking in the longest day of light and feeling the sun’s warmth wrap around us like a soothing blanket welcomed in coming in from a cold blustery day. The Solstice energy is one of over abundance of one energy so that the other may take its hold and ultimately do the work of preparation necessary to achieve the balance and momentary equilibrium that will follow at the time of the equinox.

How we use that over abundance is framed by our perspective of what is safe, what is of value, what will provide security and where will we find the solace of home and family if everything does not go as planned. But, what if we could take hold of all that is of benefit and unconditionally trust that all will proceed “as it should”. Mind, I did not say, positively, negatively or other. Each of those states has both boons and failures. That’s where trust comes into play. Knowing that regardless of the semantics we use to identify a situation as beneficial or negative there is a fair amount of the other in each. We are able to celebrate the longest day, despite the knowledge that it also heralds the descent into lessening light and colder weather.

We know that this will continue until it peaks and then we begin the process of calling to ourselves the light that we “trust” will glow brightly with the Sun’s strengthening and return at the Winter Solstice. In the meanwhile we are called indoors and seek the warmth and comfort of home, cuddle in with family as we “wait out” the darkness and redefine what these things truly mean to us. All very Cancerian pursuits prompted by a singular point on the Great Wheel and astronomical time that became the inspiration for diving more deeply into those places and people that offer security.

What if we allowed these re-defining moments to become a continuous flow of wave and current? The emotional sea that keeps us afloat regardless of the stormy seas of outer conflict and disappointments. The safe haven in which we could find the comfort of healing and loosen our fear of drowning in the dark abyss of waters that lay beneath the surface. What if we stopped struggling to rise above the waters and instead embraced them in all of their fullness as they crest and recede in the wake of our life’s journey?

Retrogrades:

Saturn in Sagittarius (April – August 25) – Mid-point
Neptune in Pisces (June 16 – November 22)
Pluto in Capricorn (April 20 – September 28)

We have our planetary family of allies in our journey of ‘What if”. The focus and intention of the retrograde slowing calls out, “What if you heeded my lessons and drank deeply from the introspective wisdom I offer? “.

In this lunation and Solar month of Cancer’s Cardinal (initializing energies that catalyze the first beginnings) Waters of life (and light) all that gives structure and organization to what we value and hold dear as our space of sanctuary is held in the wisdom of Saturn’s regimentation. Saturn is in the Fiery sign of Sagittarius-Mutable and flexible in its contractive and expansive desire to reach beyond and act. This Saturnian wisdom holds the light of fires that seek out others of like-mind and intention and its gift for this Cancerian New Moon is in the “What if, I trust in myself and allow my heart and my emotions to seek out a broader family of those I treasure and who treasure me? What might I learn about love, and my ability to love and be loved? And, how will that change the structure I have built for myself of what can be? “.

Retrograde Neptune in its ruling sign of Pisces allows for a depth of exploring what has been buried deep in the seas of our willingness to trust. Mutable and flexible Pisces gives of itself unconditionally; no ocean is too deep, no lake to long and no sea too stormy to get to the place of love and compassion that transcends its needs for that of the other. This is the ultimate giver, supporter and nurturer of each individual, seeing all as an extension of the beauty and Divinity of what is the source of its creation. What if you allowed this unconditional love to flood through you? What if you surrendered to its gifting you with the peace and sanctuary of forgiveness, hope and the truth of this beauty flowing through all despite the angry seas of emotion that we may encounter? This sea’s gift for this Cancerian New Moon calls to you to “Sink into my healing waters. Have no fear, you will not drown. I will gently support your descent as we move down deeper than you have braved alone. What is seen as murkiness and illusion in the refracting of my light in these depths, is simply a mirror reflecting back the beauty of your Soul. The clarity that you seek is the real illusion, for only that which is rigid and unyielding will produce that image. You are the flow of this sea itself and what you fear in my depths, is of your loving creation. So, fear not and instead see the beauty of my bioluminescent life below and the sanctuary found in this watery home.”

And, finally the ally of Pluto, master of the unknown and keeper of the mystery of re-membering the past and future as a gift to the present. Pluto in earthy Capricorn forms the foundation and acts as the scaffolding of confidence to explore what cannot be seen; proceeding from a place of security that has upheld on every occasion of doubt. What if, we stood at the gates of the unknown and called out to what lay beyond trusting that what answered would be precisely where and what we would need to grow. Capricorn allows for growth that spans the depths and reaches the heights, all the while being held in safety and surety that you will not falter. This is only true, if you take those first steps and if you allow the “What if, I don’t succeed?” become the “What if I excel?”.  Pluto’s gift for this Cancerian New Moon dares you “to try. To trust in the process. To recognize all (and who) that supports and upholds your heart’s desires. And, in that moment of allowing your heart to sing and move in the beauty of its birthright, you will draw from the lessons of the past, and use them to anchor yourself in the present as you look towards a future that becomes the Cancerian space of home, family and security.”

What If..

So, on this day of the New Moon of Beginnings in the Watery Seas of Cancer I return to the question I posed at the start…

“What if we allowed these re-defining moments to become a continuous flow of wave and current? To become the emotional sea that keeps us afloat regardless of the stormy seas of outer conflict and disappointments. The safe haven in which we could find the comfort of healing and loosen our fear of drowning in the dark abyss of waters that lay beneath the surface. What if we stopped struggling to rise above the waters and instead embraced them in all of their fullness as they crest and recede in the wake of our life’s journey?”

What if?….

New Moon in Taurus-Calling the Four Holy Creatures

New Moon in Taurus
8:16am.

Sun in Taurus

The Moon began its waxing journey New this morning a 8:16am (EDT) in the astrological sign of earthy Taurus, The Bull. Beyond the usual astrological attributions of Taurus, a deeper meaning and energy of Taurus can be accessed as one of the Four Holy Creatures.

A Fiercely Beating Heart: The Sun in Taurus

The Four Holy Creatures

The Four Holy Creatures are the expression of those parts of self that live in corporeal form, yet remain always as points of connection and aspiration towards our Divine nature. Those parts of our being that align with the elements, both in their alchemical and metaphysical states form the cross points within and from which we engage the process of evolving and reaching beyond our physical form and consciousness.
These Fixed signs of the astrological Great Wheel represent sustainability, longevity and permanence; each of the four holding the blueprint of one of the elements:

Taurus- The Bull/Earth
Leo- The Lion/Fire
Scorpio- The Scorpion:EAGLE:Phoenix/Water
Aquarius- The Water-Bearer (Human)/Air

In their evolved states, as the Four Holy Creatures, they encompass the necessary foundations and components to produce Form (manifest life) from that which is Form-less (Spirit).
In their designation as the Four Holy Creatures, each is winged, denoting elevation or an arising of their core energies to a state of higher awareness and use. They are represented as:

The Four Holy Creatures
Ox/Bull Lion Eagle Man
Strength Courage Swiftness Intelligence
Patience Nobility Aspiration Devotion

We could think of these energies in this way:

In It’s Mundane State….

Taurus, the Bull represents the strength, fecundity and anchoring of an animal that is large and sturdy in its presence. It will charge if provoked, and is ruled by its instinctual needs for survival.

The Winged Bull has now taken those instinctual directives and elevated them to be used in the building and anchoring of the Spirit. We tend to cast aside what we consider to be our “baser” nature as a human when on the quest for spiritual growth, which, given that we have chosen corporeal, human (animal) form is another way we disconnect and see our spiritual nature as being something separate from our physical drives. Each are vital to the whole of the experience we have chosen this lifetime and cultivating the higher forms of what serves our survival in this realm will allow the manifestation of survival in the realms of Spirit.

In It’s Mundane State….

Leo, the Lion represents courage and responsibility for its community. The Lion is a fierce hunter and even fiercer guardian of its pride and lands. It commands attention and the bellow of its roar speaks of its dominion as a predator.

The Winged Lion commands its place as master of its spiritual nature; having gained mastery over predicating what no longer serves and weakens the needs of the collective. This energy is one of claiming, through effort and skill, the Divine Kingship that is our birthright. These are the Spiritual Fires that electrify and magnetized all that we are as human and Divine.

In It’s Mundane State….

Scorpio, as the Scorpion is its most traditional assignation. The creature that lurks below and issues a deadly sting if disturbed; and at times, stinging itself in the process. Scorpio is the only astrological sign that overtly has 2 other levels of expression. The second being the Eagle.

The Eagle, as one of the Holy Creatures, offers the space of keen awareness of all that has transpired in the efforts to reach the heights finally achieved through hard work and laying bare all that would keep us below the surface. The Eagle soars on the currents of water that is breath and air itself and the elevation and lifting of the Spirit that results from this freedom to move, unsupported or tethered to earth, reminds us of the true lightness of our Being.

In It’s Mundane State….

Aquarius, the Water-Bearer represents the flow of mind poured out in a continued stream of return back to its source of acquisition. Aquarius is often mistaken as a water sign , because of those flowing waters, but the true mystery lay not in the waters, but in the empty and air-filled space of the vessel. This is the container of potential and much like the flow of thoughts and ideas, they must be routinely shared and communicated so that space is created for others.

The Winged Man is the reconciliation of conscious awareness of our Divine potential and nature. Many have heard the phrase that we are “Divine Beings having a Human Experience”, but, try as we might we often forget how profound that statement truly is. More importantly we fail to acknowledge its correctness at all levels of our being. The Winged Man (aka. The perfected Man) is one who walks in all of the worlds give more credit to neither the Spiritual or Physical form he/she holds because the consciousness of gnosis has been achieved and both are at once a tiny drop in the cosmic sea and the sea itself.

These images of the Four Holy Creatures of spiritual perfection are held in the aethers; accessible yet easily transparent in their energies unless conscious awareness and action is taken towards clarifying their purpose. Taken as a whole, each a polarity and resonance of the other, it is fitting that these Four Holy Creatures also represent the Ages of Humanity. For Humanity, as a collective whole itself , must transit through the elements of evolution before coming full cycle back to the primordial place of its collective creation.

Now at this time of the New Moon in Taurus, I call to the strength and awareness of manifest and physical form. The Bull, that guards and protects and holds strongly anchored in who and what it is. I call to the energy of allowing what is steeped in instinctual and physical response to become a creature of elevated form and nature. This is the aspiration of what is driven by the desire to survive that lifts that desire to the space of manifesting and individual who is instinctually attuned to the Divine and moves in accord with a higher purpose. And in this calling al of the Holy Creatures shall answer for their nature is one of wholeness…

Entering the Temple of the Moon

New Moon in Taurus
(a) Calling to the Four Holy Creatures

How To:
Find a quiet space where you will not be disturbed (and would be able to move a bit). If you wish to set up an altar, do so in whatever style is aligned with your practice; a simple white candle will suffice, as well. And, when you are ready and have settled in, take a few deep breaths and begin the recording.

Blessings on your Work…Robin

Full Moon in Leo
7:33p.m. (EST)

Penumbral Lunar Eclipse
5:34p.m. (EST)

Sun in Aquarius

Tomorrow evening the Moon waxes full in the astrological sign of Leo. We remain in the solar month of Aquarius and the earth will cast its shadow on the Moon in the first eclipse of 2017. This auspicious event is considered a penumbral eclipse which occurs when the outer (or penumbral) shadow of the Earth blocks part but not all of the Sun’s rays from reaching the Moon. And, in terms of the cosmic line-up, Earth stands midpoint as the Moon travels behind and the Sun is in front.

Apart from the astronomical/astrological import, the spiritual nature and metaphysical overlays of these archetypal energies can be accessed most effectively in aligning Strength and Will to Action (Sun) – Manifest Form (Earth) – and, Intuitive Flexibility (Moon). If we take this approach to the work at hand, we become the midpoint as earthy representative and call into ourselves the polarized aspects of Father(Sun) and Mother (Moon); Aquarius (Air/Mind and Vision) and Leo (Fire/Will and Guardianship).

If we choose to be the central conduit for these palpable energies, we are making conscious decision to open to the strength we have as human/manifest which is very much earth like in our composition and to take in waters of healing that are heated from a fire that burns brightly and magnetically. This is the Leo Moon heating the waters that lay without creative catalyzing and although healing and intuitive sight may arise, the process lacks the flame of spark that will set the waters in agitation (think boiling water) and make ready the space for new life to begin. And, for many of us, given the start of this 2017 year and the uncertainty and imposing change that is at each turn, claiming our place as catalyzers of birthing waters that are heated by the fierce and protective action of Leo’s will is a good place to begin the work of standing strong.

The Solar impetus to be  received is that of broad vision and electrical charge that moves at the speed of  cosmic light; inspiring and informing all that lay in its path. This is a Sun that strengthens and lights up the neurons and neurological pathways that produce the blueprint and ideologies of pure thought. Aquarius occupies its intention with the greater good for all, and although the individual is frequently left out of the equation, the outcome is one of future potential. Having reached the mid-point of a Solar month in a sign of inspired vision is a gift of clarity. Being able to synthesize and stabilize (this is the action of the Fixed signs) our will towards Highest Expression while being mindful of the impact for all concerned, amps up the charge of what we are compelled towards, rather than what we randomly are agitated and unproductively stimulated by.

We also have the additional and rare event of Comet 45p coming very near to earth. Icy particles, gasses and dust comprising the stuff of the solar system light the sky as trails of what is burnt off are dispersed throughout. This is the lesson of action requiring disruption and the necessary fall-out that may occur as a by-product as the path is pursued and the course is scripted whatever it “will be”.

Jupiter is Retrograde

Adding some expansive energy to the cosmic recipe,  the planet, Jupiter stationed retrograde on the 5/6th of this month.  Jupiter is wearing the mantle of Cardinal Air, Libra, so the nature of this expansive introspection is one of seeking refinement of what is balanced and harmonious. The mental aspect of this energy will play out in the areas of what you “perceive” to be in balance with what is reality and where you draw inspiration to cull away what is not in accord.

Jupiter gives pause to allow us to inhale the dynamic energies of Sun and Moon. Think of an hourglass. Each end is expansive in fanning out as base for whatever comes into it. But at the center point all is contracted and narrowed to allow the precise amount of flow in a timely fashion that is regulated by the diameter of opening. What we pull in from our outer experience/world is filtered/regulated by the space of receptivity we allow and what passes through is breathed out to fill all that is (the widened base of) our inner state of being. Jupiter is both the ebb and the flow; and in the astrological sign of Cardinal (initializing energy) Libra, each is important for a specific outcome; and each will ultimately be lesser and/or more on the scales in accord to what is needed for the most refined product. The goal being one of organized existence that can flex and expand regardless of the extent of chaos that naturally exerts its force.

Receptive Ground
The opportunity at this lunation is one of becoming the receptive ground that coalesces and anchors into itself the lights of Higher Purpose (Solar Aquarius) and Healing Quickening (Lunar Leo). And, from the fixed (and focused) nature of Mind and Will, manifest form aligns with awareness that stewardship and the power of our planet is also the measure of our Great Work of stewardship and the power of our corporeal form.
