Full Moon in Libra

3:42a.m. (EDT)

Total Lunar Eclipse Begins 3:07am (EDT)

The Moon is Full in the early morning hours of April 15th in the astrological sign of Libra with a total Lunar Eclipse punctuating the energetic experience. This combination offers the potential for some very powerful and deep spiritual work.

A Lunar Eclipse occurs when the Moon passes through the shadow of the Earth as it is lit from behind by the Sun. The usual orbit of the Moon is just far enough off the Earth/Solar plane that the Moon makes its journey avoiding the shadow of the Earth casts.  The eclipse places the Sun directly behind the Earth as the Moon moves into the position within Earth’s shadow. This early morning eclipse will be a Total Eclipse meaning that the Moon passes through the entirety of the Earth’s shadow from 3:07am to 4:25am. The refraction of light occurring from the filtering of earth’s atmosphere as light shines directly from the Sun behind the earth causes a natural progression of changing the moon’s coloring from the creamy white of a normal Full Moon to a reddish brown coloring of the moon as the eclipse event takes place. The Moon returns to its milky whiteness as She basks in the full shining of Sun upon her face.

For lots of great information about eclipses and, in particular this eclipse go to: mreclispse.com.  This site has everything you want to know about the astronomy of Solar and Lunar Eclipses.

If we consider the spiritual implications of the eclipse energy we are able to call upon the energies of Will (Sun), Manifestation and Foundation (Earth) and intuitive Heart (Moon). In the placement of the Lunar Eclipse, Earth receives the direct outpouring of the sun’s energy as its reflective back light of emanation towards the Moon’s surface. Divine Will (our Spiritual Sun) is brought to a place of manifest and practical use as we, as physical beings, are especially enlivened by its solar principle and dynamic of energy.

The reflection of this shadow of light emanates out towards the moon in her phase of fullness through the filter of Earth (and opportunity to bring it to manifestation). This refraction of sun’s light refines the matters of heart and quickens in a subtle yet profound way of application as it passes through the earth shadow of our form imbuing the Full Moon energy with the hidden resources of what lay at our inner sun’s core. Drawing this light shadow that holds the mysteries of our internal lunarscape into the intuitive waters that flow in the intermittent dimming (the frequency of the Lunar Eclipses) of its full potential provides the space of accessing those qualities that strengthen the aspects of our manifest nature that lay in the shadows and enliven these by emotional and intuitive insight so they may be used in a more practical manner as they are brought to the fullness of their potential. Who we are in the strength (Sun) of our manifest form (Moon) and the will we call forth empowers these deep waters of our intuitive nature (Moon).

Now, add the astrological component. The Moon is Full in the Cardinal sign Libra. Libra is depicted as the Scales of balance. Refinement and love of the intellectual nature of calibrating the scales of balance to maintain that balance is the type of mental gymnastics the Air (Intellect/mind) sign of Libra enjoys. The Full Moon ushers in the highest potential and peak of whatever energy it is reflecting, so heart infused by refined emotions and intuition honed by informed trial and error are at hand.

The emphasis of balance that Libra exerts is enhanced by this Total Lunar Eclipse. The polarities of Male (Sun) and Female (Moon) that are present in the opposition of Sun and Moon that occurs during a full moon are both subdued in their synthesis at the level of manifestation(Earth). In this case, the extremes of the natural flow of Sun and Moon are brought to the mid-point of Earth, standing as synthesizer of the two. This is the purposeful and modulated conversation between a pair of opposites (Sun and Moon) that has similar goal and each is willing to compromise (Libra) in its application and civilized assertion of its needs and desires so that something reflecting the harmonious (Libra) values of each may be initiated (Cardinal Modality) towards manifest form (Earth).

In spiritual working, making full use of these varied dynamics of a Full Moon and a Lunar Eclipse offers opportunity to reshape and refine what we think about those qualities of heart that lie just below the surface of what we normally express to inform our human experience. This action allows the calling forth of the informed intent to bring them into a state of balance and harmonious expression in our daily affairs. And, all works collaboratively in a balanced state knowing that strength of Divine Will (Sun) continually flows in support as the back lighting for the ebb and flow (Moon) of these energies as the foundational (Earth) work that the shadow of our inner creative Will to Manifest brings to the surface.

The Magick of Aries

We conclude our time in the Temple of the Sun with some suggestions of how to use the astrological sign of Aries in magickal endeavors. Whatever we apply Aries energy to is going to receive a fresh push, a burst of life and stimulating flow.

Solar Month Magick

Enhances new endeavors, catalyze to action what has been inert and create a dialogue between the
spark of flame and what becomes the blaze that stands in the spotlight

I am currently teaching a class on operative Magick and one of the timelines discussed was that of using a solar month to enliven the workings of a spell. Harnessing that solar energy in a specific astrological sign can be used effectively to strengthen and focus on the light bearing qualities of the astrological sign it is in.

Making use of Aries energy in this way is bi-fold in its application. It is the starting sign of the Solar Year and brings its fiery energy in harmonious sync with lighting the flame under any action that needs more fire. This approach can be used for short term projects, but is most effective for long term workings. A goal such as wanting to become more courageous and spontaneous in actions taken benefits from beginning its cycle while the Sun is in Aries.

Similar to the New, Full and Waning cycles of the Lunar Month, beginning the working in the Solar Month of Aries would be the burst of newness, the dawn of awakening and the action of a fresh start. Using the cycle of Fire and those astrological signs of that element the next point of bolstering the energy would be during Leo. The Solar Month of Leo stands as the Full phase of the Fiery energy, ripe and full with warmth, heat and brilliance of light and vitality. The waning and flexible energy of Sagittarius (the last of the Fire signs) would serve as the point of networking, reaching out in a more dynamic way and stepping fully into the action of expansive outreach. As each of these Solar Months take hold the energy of the working is bolstered, active steps would be taken towards its end goal and progress made is seen through the lens of the changing cycles of flow of solar dynamics.

Lunar Magick

Enhances the healing and cooling properties of Aries catalyzing action

Use of Lunar energy and the astrological sign of Aries provides a principle of firing up the emotional waters. Workings that desire the goal of greater independence within a situation that often feels oppressive and limiting aptly make use of Aries’ qualities of individualism and dynamic expression. Although healing is not the first thing that comes to mind with Aries energy, working under the care and movement of the Moon cycles the healing that occurs is similar to revealing the fresh pink skin underneath a wound that has been cleaned and cauterized.

The New Moon of Aries can set up the foundation for beginning the process of strengthening your will and the assertion of it in a productive way for Self (Aries rules the house of the Self). The Full Moon in Aries can be called upon to light the way and for the correct actions to be taken to fully envision yourself standing in a place of greater power and authority over your life. And the waning moon’s energy may be drawn upon to release those false starts, and unproductive tantrums of aggression that may occur as you struggle to free yourself from feeling bound.

Some Additional Astrological properties of Aries

Keywords: Initiator, Pioneer, Head-strong, Active, Assertive, Impulsive, Dynamic, Enthusiasm, Independence

The Archetype: The Warrior is the archetype associated with Aries. This is the action of persistence and pushing ahead as new paths are carved out.

Rules Astrological House: The 1st house of the Zodiac, the “House of Self”. This is the house of the Ascendant and represents the persona you allow others to see. In keeping with the attitude of Aries youthful nature, this is the space of first impressions that sets the tone for what follows. Workings that relate to the singular individual and transformation and expression of who you perceive yourself to be are enhanced using Aries’ energy.

Color: Red, clear, vibrant and pulsing with light. “Seeing red” calls to mind quick response, readiness to charge ahead and a rising of the emotions (often equated with anger) to the boiling point of reaction vs. response. We can also make use of the vibrancy of this color as correspondence for Aries in remembering the life sustaining properties of blood, the history and story it carries and the encoding that connects us with all of humanity. We can experience the flush of red on blushing cheek and arousal of red beating heart and stimulated sex in the state of orgasmic release.

As we move through each of the Solar Temples in the coming year, it will become more apparent how interconnected they are. The story that is woven is one of growth and evolution that is just as relevant today as it was to the ancients. We learn from these natural cycles and their application is profound mundanely and spiritually.

Sun in Aries: New Life on the Tree

If you are not familiar with the Qabalistic Tree of Life, I would recommend reading through the article posted in my other blog, The Magickal Pen entitled The Might of Geburah to give you the necessary overview for an introductory base of working knowledge about the Tree. It can be found here:

The Magickal Pen: Geburah’s Might

Aries on the Tree

As we enter the Temple of the Sun, Qabalistically we are entering into connection with the central sphere on the Tree of Life, Tiphareth. The name given this sphere is Beauty and the energy is one of synthesis through sacrifice and integration through refinement of the sum of all of its parts. This is much the same energy that we experience in the course of a Solar year. The energy of each of the Zodiacal signs, their elements and modality are modified and expressed through the brilliance of the Sun. And, in keeping with the evolutionary process of movement from one sign to the next, each is informed by the previous sign’s energy and contributes a part of its dynamic into the sign that follows.

Tiphareth and the Sun

Each of the Sephiroth and connecting Paths of the Tree hold correspondence with a planetary and/or zodiacal energy. The physical Sun stands centrally within our solar system, providing light and heat. Tiphareth provides the space of transformation and the full force generator that distributes what is processed so it may be utilized and transmuted by whatever it emanates its energy into. This is the sacrificial aspect of this sphere. This is the action of enlivening within its own source to ensure the continuation of the creative process begun within the other components of the Tree. So we begin in this central hub of universal energy and move out towards the flow of energy represented by the astrological sign of Aries.

Aries and Mars

The Ruling planet of Aries is Mars. On the Tree of Life, the sphere of Geburah holds the pure energy that is the active principle of Mars. The work of Geburah is one of culling and release of what no longer serves. If we think of this in application to Aries and the youthful energy exemplified, we could equate this description with the impetuous nature of youthful energy, and in this state of impetuosity viable matter may be discarded and overlooked as not be relevant. To some degree this speaks to lack of experience about what something of value looks like and some is just simply the by-product of “haste makes waste”. The paradox of this is that often what unintentionally is left behind becomes the base that is used to create something incredibly useful. Sometimes we need to see with the eyes of one whose only directive is to enjoy the process as they go along and be utterly amazed by where it leads.

Geburah is also attributed as having the Vision of Power. Aries, when infused with the boldness and brilliance of the Sun’s energy can become the great catalytic force that runs through the initial quickening of inventive action, mind and heart. The power that is exerted can be directed and focused in a specific way to be used as a tool of inspiration. Think of the captivating power of a newly born baby and the feelings evoked in celebration of this new life. Think of the encouraging power of one who so utterly and faithfully believes in your success that it becomes your self-fulfilling prophecy, carefully and skillfully reinvented with each new achievement.

The 22nd Path of Connection: Aries/Mars and the Sun

Path22 Aries

The spheres of Geburah (Mars) and Tiphareth (The Sun) are connected by the 22nd Path on the Tree of Life. Each of the connecting paths on the Tree acts as the bridge of synthesis between the spheres of connection and their pure essence. Additionally, each path has a Hebrew Letter designated as expression of its energy. The Hebrew Letter for the 22nd Path is Lamed, which means Ox-Goad. An ox-goad is a tool used to prod the animal towards movement so that the necessary work may be accomplished. This is the action achieved through the balance of rest and work; providing the space for energy to build and the space for that energy to be used productively towards an end goal. This is the path of conduit that draws from each of its sources and sets up the dialogue of beginning between the Mars energy of Aries (Geburah) and the Sun (Tiphareth). The result is expressed something like this:

The ebullient (Cardinal modality) outpouring of Aries’ kick-starter dynamic is tempered, synthesized and reformatted within the energy of the Sun’s strengthening and structure (Tiphareth). And, once having received the application of the Sun’s light returns back into Aries’ fuel line as premium grade readying the vehicle of its transport to blaze those new trails, recharged, energized and ever mindful of the new horizons ahead.

Another Path of Expression: Aries on the 15th Path

15thPath Aries1

The astrological sign of Aries, proper, is placed on the 15th Path, which connects the spheres of Chokmah (Wisdom) and Tiphareth (Beauty). We now know more of Tiphareth’s (Sun’s) energy on the Tree and this, in relation to the maturity of Chokmah is what the goal of aspiration is for Aries as it comes to its later degree before transiting into the stability of Taurus. The Hebrew Letter placed on the 15th Path is Heh, which means Window in English. A window allows light to pass through it or to be reflected from its surface. We may stand safely behind it, remaining hidden if desired, from the rest of the world and stand as observer or call out to passers-by making our presence fully known.

We now see Aries as the beginning of the zodiacal wheel and have equated that with the chronological expression of infancy through early childhood. At some point the young child develops a greater acumen of the impact of their actions and learns to control (albeit, still not completely) some of their earlier impulses as they begin to interact from a broader knowledge that others have needs as well. The placement of Aries upon this path forms the initial stages of understanding that we are part of something larger than ourselves and as such we must begin the steps towards building the more mature foundations of who we will become. The wisdom of Chokmah is one that realizes that we should not abandon the enthusiasm, desire and inquisitiveness of our younger selves but should instead use that as the initial impulse to synthesize and bring to greater clarity the knowledge and wisdom of our shining selves (Sun) in the full glory of the openness and receptivity of the child (Aries).

In Conclusion:

There is much I have omitted here regarding the Spheres and Paths of the Qabalistic Tree; especially through the lens of the Solar Year and the potential held in the melding of the two disciplines of Astrology and Qabalah. As we move through the year, you will have at its end the basic tools of knowledge to pursue further study of either or both as you wish. And, in the spirit of Aries there is always another new experience to be explored, tested and added towards your growth into a mature and whole spiritual being.

New Moon in Aries-Fire It Up!

There are several aspects that weigh into the decision of how to effectively use a particular moon’s energies in a given astrological sign. Each, independently offers its own color and dynamic and when purposefully combined in a way to be supportive of each other the results are much more cohesive and potent in their efficacy and success. The supportive structure of dynamic polarities is already in place with the phase of a New Moon. Sun (masculine) and Moon (feminine) are in the same astrological sign forming an energy that is united in its efforts and acting one upon the other to inform the intent. Both are expressing the astrological sign’s gifts, one with the strength, stability and force of the masculine and the other held in flowing intuitive and creative grace of the feminine. Additionally, the New Moon falls approximately mid-point in the growing potency of the Solar month. If we think in terms of chronological cycle, this is the mature and stable Father (Sun) offering his protective support and strength as the Maiden (New Moon) sets off on her first explorations of what is possible.

Let’s take a look at the ingredients for making full use of all that is within the scope of that potential:

The Moon’s Natural Energy:

The Moon represents water, emotion and intuitive nature. So anything that is added as the overlay on this is going to be of most potency in connecting to the ebb and tides of the emotional, intuitive nature with the intent of accessing the natural flow of these waters. Using lunar energy is an opportunity to tap into the energy of movement. Water flows and moves and if not becomes stagnant. The Moon calls us to ride the seas of energetic exchange and to be mindful that we provide proper container for that flow; largely by our own efforts of carving out the path of greatest potential much like the waters erode the edge of the shoreline or smooth the rough edges of stones placed in its way of continued flow. Remember the earlier analogy of the Father and Maiden. Each new inroad made by the flow of the Maiden’s desire to expand and grow is shored up and made stable by Fathers loving interaction. His is the container that She may extend and move through with surety and safety.

The Moon’s Phase:

There are many ways to honor the cycles of lunar phase; some being formal ritual (Esbat) and others being simple meditation or sitting under the light of the Full Moon and breathing in the energy and beauty of its force. For most, the Full Moon is the easiest to connect with given the visual presentation that graces a night sky if weather is clear. The phases of New and Dark Moon are not visible in presentation and connecting to these energies requires a fully open and responsive sense of awareness and being able to feel what cannot be seen yet is potent, viable and present nonetheless.

The New Moon is an excellent time to begin workings that require the energy of the initial flow needed for beginnings. One of the correlates would be the energy of the sunrise or dawn. A new day is a beginning that is packed full with the potential to become whatever you desire most by the time it reaches the fullness of mid-day. So too, the lunar cycle of the New Moon offers the opportunity to harness the energy of expansion towards the fullest expression of what you wish to bring into manifestation at the Full Moon.

The next point of focus is which of the astrological signs the moon phase flows through. Some considerations would be (in this case, Aries):

Keywords and Energy of the Astrological Sign:

Aries= enthusiasm, assertiveness, experimentation and fresh perspective

The Element of the Astrological Sign:

Fire= a call to action, will, transformation and ultimate change

The Modality of the astrological sign:

Cardinal= the process of Initializing, catalyzing and crafting the beginnings of whatever this modality is applied to

Putting It All Together

Workings for a New Moon Ritual in Aries might include:

A dedication to a new plan of action

Breaking through the barriers that hold you from taking those first steps

Firing up your enthusiasm and asking for a new course of action to be revealed

Adding additional bolster to projects requiring deeper commitment of will and action

Meditations may include:

Sitting openly and receptively to enliven the spiritual will to right action

Calling the child in you to see with new vision and insight

Visioning to seek the place within that burns with the newly quickened fires that require tending and care as they are brought forward into the light of the Full Moon and the maturing of the Solar Month.

Enter into these workings with the knowledge that you are anchored and strengthened by the outpouring of the Sun acting collaboratively on what you most desire. This is both a blessings and a caution as the combustible nature of sun and sign being in sync must also rely on the soothing, healing and newly warmed (Aries) waters of the Moon. The underlying current that flows through this New Moon is that of the first strike of a match; the crisp intent of the initial spark and the resultant flame that serves to Fire up the Will to become the blaze of new making.

Flame burns brightly
In milky white orb
Of New Moon’s darkness.

Innocence carries the
Lantern of desire’s
New goal and flame
Ebb and flows as
Will follow youth’s course.

One final striking and
The spark takes hold
A tiny flash of hope
That will blaze new trails.

Hymn to RA

All Hail to Thee, Mighty RA
Blaze of noon day sun.
Your fiery orb high in the
Sky above as we kneel
Beneath the heat of
Your radiance.

All the Gods bow to your radiance
All the Goddesses sing hymns of praise
To Your glory and man
Lays prostrate in humility
And devotion at the altar of
Your making.

Sweet music of adoration and offerings
Brought forth from the Black Land
Rise up in praise and thanks for
Your Sustaining Light.

All darkness flees at the touch of Your hand
All ceases its movement as Your expansive
Rays stretch across the morning sky.

The lotus opens to receive Your Touch
And the sands glisten as rare jewels
As You gaze upon each grain washed
Clean in the boundless ocean that
Reflects the brilliance of your face.

All Hail to Thee
Amun-RA
All Hail to Thee
Who sits high
Above the world.

Khepra in the East
Atum in the West
Whose eye holds the
Point of Life and the
Trifold Arc of Power.

Your eyes see all and
You are the place of return
Within the glowing blackness
Of the Midnight Sun.

All Hail to Thee
All Hail to Thee

Sun in Aries
3.20.2014

Today is a particularly auspicious day. In addition to the Sun’s Transit into Aries and the start of a new zodiacal cycle, it is International Astrology Day, the Spring Equinox and on a personal note, my twin daughters’ birthday. All of these occurrences bringing a strong energy of focus on today, March 20.2014! The invocation to RA above demonstrates the potency and regal nature of the solar principle and it is in the Spirit of this energy that we will travel the Greater cycle of the Sun as we move through its many faces clothed in the intent and style of each of the astrological signs.

These posts will be broken down into 4/weekly offerings to include:

* The primary energy of the astrological sign (posting on the date of Transit)

* New Moon Magick (posting on the date of lunation)

* Magickal Overlays Pt. 1- Qabalah and Tarot (Sunday)

* Magickal Overlays Pt. 2- Numerology and more (Sunday)

Because we are just entering the Temple of the Sun, there will be five posts this solar month. Today’s post will explore the dynamics of the Sun itself and an additional post on Sunday will discuss the application of the astrological sign Aries as the ruler of this solar month. The number 5 is an appropriate way to begin this journey, as it is the number of disruptive and transformative change, both of which are two of the intentions for this solar study.

The Sun

As pagans, we are continually reminded of and work with the energies and mysteries of the Moon. We have ritual, offer devotion and live in the light and through the cycles of Her many phases. By contrast, the Solar Mysteries are generally continued within the Sabbats and the occasional working that requires the assistance of a solar deity. Doing work that will deepen and strengthen our connection to both of these cycles establishes a point of balance that is informed by the strengths of each and the interweaving of their subtleties to produce work that is synthesized and illumined by light and dark.

The Sun is the brightest star in the heavens. In esoteric matters we often hear reference of the Sun behind the Sun or the Midnight Sun.  It is both celestial body, physical in its energy and impact and archetypal in its energy as Deity, energetic force and place of primal force that holds the mystery of creation.

There are many attributions that are given to the Sun. in magickal work, we think of the sun’s energies in the forms it takes as the solar deities we work with, the heat and light the sun provides at a physical and manifest level and the impact of the solar meridians and chakra on our subtle energetic anatomy. As the polarity to the feminine intuitive and healing Lunar qualities, we see the power of the Sun as the masculine strength that is woven through folklore, mythology and the vastness of the varied and diverse spiritual streams. The Sun stands at the central core of all of our workings. It is the dynamic fire that fuels our will towards intent and acts as the combustible source that enlivens whatever that working may be.

These are just a few of the ways we make connection with the archetypes of the Sun. Regardless of what form these solar energies take, the underpinning keys that hold true are those of strengthening, enlivening and ultimately transforming anything held in its power. There is, as well, the timely caution to not stray too close to the full potency of the light of the sun lest it burn the fragile skin we are contained within. In counter to that we also carry the lessons of the Phoenix, whose sole (soul) work is that of the destruction of itself, reduction to the refined essence of its components and the rising up from the ash of flesh and bone to be reborn anew. Let’s take a closer look at some of these vehicles of change.

In ritual and magickal or devotional work we call to the Deities that will best inform and serve what we hope to manifest. The solar deities are those who are called forth to enliven, strengthen and ignite change in a very specific and transmutive way. The Egyptian Solar God, RA reigned supreme and took many forms, including that of the rising and setting of the physical Sun, the sustainer of all life. Each aspect held the key to another level of transformation that those who followed the energy of his Solar flame could hope to lay claim to. The Celtic Goddess, Brighid as a solar deity was keeper of the sacred triple flame and ignited the creative spark in her seekers. Her blade was one of healing that cauterized that which had been excised. She was mistress of the Forge and as such applied the heat of her action to temper the malleable steel of our form and bathed it in the soothing waters too cool and set what had been crafted. The Greek God, Helios was considered to be the Sun itself, traveling much like RA through the day lit sky in a chariot drawn by fire breathing horses. These are the Gods/desses that light the way and blaze the path towards transformation. In ceremonial work, the Liber Resh Vel Helios was written for members of Aleister Crowley’s Order to be performed four times daily as devotional and adoration of the Sun. Its intent was that of focus of the mental process from a heliocentric view, greater connection to the energies of the sun and attunement to The Great Work.

At the level of spiritual evolution and transformation of the energetic bodies it is the solar connection that assists in the building of a Light enlivened physical or manifest body. This energy is gifted through the Etheric body via the vital force gathered from the sun. This energy of the sun presents in three streams of force:

• The Fohat which is the physical manifestation of electricity and of the electromagnetic state in application. This form of solar energy directly impacts the neurological systems of the body that, in turn stimulate and open the pathways of communication, both at physical and spiritual levels.

• The flow of Prana, which provides a state of vitality to the body and is the penultimate and primary life force that transforms the fluids of the body.

• The Kundalini or serpent Fire that transmutes, refines and quickens the impact of the Endocrine System. It is the union of the solar and lunar pathways working each in accord and in friction with the other that sends the life force upwards to nourish and flow through the pathways of the 7-Stars (aka: the glands/organs of the Endocrine system).

In energetic practice, it is the action of calling upon the accumulated Fohat that serves to enliven the individual’s Prana that can then in turn be used to raise and quicken the Serpent Fires of the Kundalini. As this polarized flow of energy of both the lunar and solar currents is pulled up into the crown center, it bathes the pineal glands in its milky elixir and acts as interface to opening to cosmic and expanded consciousness.

At the level of the Chakras- the vortices of energy that draw in and emit the refined spiritual light, the Sun is associated with the Solar Plexus. This chakra is the core center of our inner sun or seat of great power. It is within the solar plexus that awareness of the raising of energy is first noticed. It sits at the center of gravitational balance, keeping us strong and secure in our footing as we move forward. And, it is this chakra that acts to energize and strengthen our actions and fires of will. If engaged fully it is the opener of the heart center of compassion and works in conjunction with the throat center so that will, heart and mind are expressed in an effective manner.

In the overlay of the system of the Qabalah, the sun stands as the central sephira (sphere) of the Tree of Life as Tiphareth. This is the place of sacrifice and reassembling from the wisdom of the inpouring of the other spheres of connection that enter and pass through Tiphraeth. It is the sphere of Beauty, the beauty being held in the synthesis and transmutation by application of the solar principle. On ascending the Tree towards the Godhead of Kether (The Limitless All) the next sphere of connection is Geburah on the Pillar of Might. The heat of the sun is now aligned with the cauterizing blade of the surgeon that cleaves to heal. In descent towards the manifest realm of Malkuth (Foundation) Tiphareth pours into Netzach on the Pillar of Mercy, the fires of refinement. The Solar Principle is gathered here as the soon to be manifest form is fired in the kiln’s of selective balance and desire to create. And on the Middle Pillar of the Tree Tiphareth reaches up through knowledge (Da’At) and the resultant self-awareness to return to the formless source of Kether. On return circuit, the solar energy of Tiphareth reaches down into the sphere of Yesod, affecting discernment and exerting will that is devoid of illusion and misdirection as it is brought into the physical world.

Astronomically, at the time of the Solstices and the Equinoxes we are offered the dynamics of bringing a state of balance between the polarities of sun and moon; night and day. The solstices herald the dominance of one over the other, still being ever mindful of the need for each to maintain this cycle of excess and release. The equinoxes provide a dynamic of seeing solar (day) and lunar (night) in harmonious balance, each providing the pause of equilateral tension as the movement into waxing or waning begins anew.

There are as many ways to attune to this cycle as there are the overlays and characteristics that comprise it. I routinely use these energies in my daily spiritual practice. This may take the form of simply sitting outside at lunchtime and calling into myself the spiritual (Prana) and physical (Fohat) energy of the Sun. I breathe in the rays of the sun, pulling them into the Solar Plexus and then exhaling them into distribution throughout my body. I envision this process radiating out ad into all of my subtle bodies. I have used crystals to hold the specific energy of the sun for later use in ritual work calling upon a Solar Deity’s assistance in quickening the start of a new project. This is particularly effective during a solar eclipse; bringing together a sphere that has been charged with the building lunar energies and another holding the energies of the solar cycle. This eclipse only occurs when the moon is in its New Phase, and is signified by the passing of the moon between the earth and the Sun. I can call upon this combination of energy to create the pathway of the Sun strengthening the heart’s desire (The Moon) as it aligns with the manifest plane of earth.

A few years ago, our Coven embarked on a deepening of our understanding and use of the solar mysteries in a year-long plan. We used as our foundation the Egyptian Pantheon and the cycle of RA and the movement of the Solar Barque (Solar Boat) across the sky through specially crafted rituals. We honored Khepra-Ra at the Vernal Equinox as keeper of the Dawn and new beginnings. We invoked Amum-RA at the Summer Solstice as quickener and peak solar force of noon. The Autumnal Equinox held the energy of RA-Atum in the solar form of Dusk and the setting of the sun to rest and integrate what had been enlivened. And, we entered the Du’at at Samhain in preparation for the calling forth of the Midnight Sun at the time of the Winter Solstice. The products of this work were an uplifting of the foundations we had laid towards a better understanding of the primal nature of the solar energies and their impact in all of our workings.

I have included at the beginning of this introductory post an invocation that I wrote years ago that was used at the start of the Solar Mysteries cycle of workings. If you are so inclined, make formal dedication to this study and feel free to use this invocation as an opening to the Gateway of an energy that is potent in its outpouring and serves to inform and illuminate all aspects of our being. In Solar Light!

Second Qrtr Phase

Waxing Moon in Gemini

Today marks the second quarter lunar phase and mid-point between the New Moon in Pisces of March 1st and the upcoming Full Moon in Virgo on March 16th. Additionally Mars stationed retrograde late morning on the day of the New Moon and will remain retrograde through May 19th in the astrological sign of Libra. The Sun is in its later stage of progression through Pisces and as such the compassionate outpouring heated by the sun’s energies lends intensity and passion to whatever falls under its watchful gaze. Pisces is the last of the astrological signs and as such brings the sum total of experience of each of the preceding into its intuitive waters and usually placid waters.

Today’s Moon is in the astrological sign of Gemini. This energy is supportive of thinking through the options and communicating (Gemini) the action (Mars) to be taken. The Sun currently in the more mature energetic phase of Pisces oversees all progress made in these specific areas with a decidedly compassionate twist helping to temper what has potential for bursting floodgates rather than flowing organically as cascading waterfall. The upcoming Full Moon’s promise of result is one of calm waters emerging strongly and expansively from the turbulent breakthrough of the Pisces New Moon and Mars retrograde occurring dualistically.

A Mars retrograde will demand that you be assertive in your intent as it carves new paths and new experience from what is inert and stagnating. Mars is a planet of action and will, and if that action is misaligned what would be assertiveness and activated will becomes aggression and tyrannical force. Mars is currently in the astrological sign of Libra, so that lends an energy that strives towards balance and refinement through mental processes. The application of Pisces Moon and Sun to this station provides the initial compassion that will temper Mars fiery energy as it pours its intensity into each endeavor undertaken during its retrograde.

I specifically chose today’s energy to focus on as it is the 8th day of the 3rd month of the year. I like to actively incorporate numerology in all of my activities and find the points of similarities and resonance to a particular number’s energy. The number 8 speaks to the ability to traverse time and timelessness (in the form of the lemniscate) in a flow of cycle that expands and contracts in dynamics. The number eight follows that of the seven of learning and new experiences and is the outcome of moving through the halls of knowledge of one door and emerging newly transformed from the other end of the journey. An additional bolster to the energy of the 8th day is that today is Saturday, whose ruler is Saturn- the great Gate Keeper of time, structure and order (see what I mean about synchronicity and resonance!). In practice, we can use the dynamic energy of this mid-space in reaching back and drawing forward the emotional and compassionate outpouring of the Pisces New Moon and gathering the steam of assertive action towards bringing this energy to its peak at the Full Moon in Virgo; the astrological sign of sorting, analyzing and emphasis on foundational detail.

March is the 3rd Month of the calendar year. The number 3 indicates the creative force of two generating a third from its collaborative efforts. Harmony and the triune of spiritual path- Maiden, Mother, Crone; Youth, Father, Sage and more highlight the movement and progression of one thing merging into the other to create the third of synthesized wisdom and force. Three is also the number of active creation, the triangle of fire and trinity of positive, negative and neutral charge to catalyze are all aspects of this number.

Putting this together means opportunity for a pause in time to align (8/Saturn) and act in creative flow (3/Mars)that will ensure what is carried forward has been informed (Gemini) from the talking waters of compassionate and strengthened experience (Sun/Pisces). As the Moon waxes towards Virgo’s earthy anchoring of fullness those waters will continue to expand in opening out towards the space of new horizons as the sun begins a new zodiacal cycle entering the first astrological sign of Aries at the Vernal Equinox.

In practical application, I will use this day to actively allow the messages and information needed to flow freely from my intuitive self. My intent will be one of dipping deeply into what has served me in the past and set me on a course of productive action towards my goals. These drops of knowing will form the body of my placid waters within and these are what I will carry forward to serve as reflective surface of my greater intent at the fullness of the Moon.

Please join me in The Temple of the Sun on March 20th for a year-long exploration of the solar year.

4th Qrt. Anchoring

Waning 4th Quarter Moon
Sagittarius

Yesterday the moon transited into her Waning 4th Qrt Phase and today is holding firm in the astrological sign of Sagittarius. The Waning moon energy is used for the space of release and resetting of what works and what doesn’t. Sagittarius is a Mutable (flexible/expansive) sign of the Fire element(action/will).  The waning moon energy in this sign can be used effectively to take action of release that will be flexible and pliable enough to be adaptable in what you carry forward actively and willfully towards the new moon of beginnings.

I have been acutely aware of the general chaos and over stimulation that has been playing out for some time now at personal and global levels.  And, with this Sagittarian energy now in place we can turn the natural networking tendencies of this sign inward towards letting go of what (and who) is serving to help us ground and what is draining our inner resources. It feels like the space is ripe for re-anchoring ourselves so that we may weather these chaotic storms more substantially rather than getting caught up in the momentum of disruption.

It seems that everyone is being affected at some level of crisis, unexpected events or general dis-ease and the normal tendency to reach out to friends and community doesn’t seem to be as productive as each has their own burdens to carry.  Sometimes, we overlook our own place of stability in searching for that strength elsewhere and from others.  And, when the seas become particularly rough we fail to reach out  and draw the life-preserver towards ourself before reaching out to save another. I think at times the best comfort and stability we can give is only available after having allowed ourselves to receive the return of our own comforting and stabilizing.

In thinking about Sagittarius and the ease with which this sign brings groups together, finds common ground and awakens the fires of communal effort my inclination is towards making conscious choice of drawing streams of that active outreach inward and recoiling this active energy into a place of stability.  I am not suggesting a retreat in alienating ourselves from others and hiding from the world and its discord, but rather a process of shoring up within ourselves the fertile ground for the planting of  what will blossom at the new moon. An image that comes to mind is that of the retractable double ended cords used for technical devices. When tension is exerted in pulling outward, both ends recoil back into a central hub spindle that is stable, anchored and ready for the next expansion outward.

moctxYFTxgYkFy_EdG13OXA

As I sit in meditation tonight, I am going to bring to conscious awareness all of the ways in which I have extended myself in outward reach towards establishing a network of friends, relatives and strangers.  I will call up the strength and stability, fire of will and emotional investment I sent out in those reachings. And, as I look at each cord of attachment, I am going to draw that energy back into the central hub of my own center; reconnecting to what is stable and secure within myself.  I will breathe into this flexible way of being and allow myself the gradual expansion outward towards those connection that have weathered this anchoring within.   The archer’s draw back of fiery arrow will be one of rebound that exerts just the appropriate amount of energy, neither wasted nor over-stressed  that will carry with it the release of what unproductively holds me dependent on resources other than my own. And as the anchoring of this energy settles into the salty beds of water’s emotional upheaval I will be as the buoy on the ocean, marking the way for safe passage riding the turbulence til the calming waters of morning’s light and strength return.

Full Moon in Leo
February 14.2014
6:53 p.m. (EST)

Sun in Aquarius

Mercury Retrograde

The Moon is full in the astrological sign of Leo tomorrow. Leo is of the Fixed Modality and the element of Fire. The ruling planet is the Sun, so light and the pursuit of being in the spotlight are some of the motivations of Leo’s energy. In the phase of a Full Moon, the astrological signs of Sun and Moon are opposing in their energies. What that means is that the Sun is in the astrological sign directly opposite the sign of the Moon on the Zodiacal wheel. This alignment or aspect is the basis for the theories of conflict with signs of opposition. There is a natural tension that occurs between the two signs, each of a differing element yet of the same modality. Something like the family that shares biological (modality) lineage but each has their own specific personality (element) that is not always harmonious with the others but shares common experience.  I see these points of opposition as opportunities for great growth and potential for harmonizing the Lunar (intuitive/emotional) with the Solar (will/intent and desire). In the case of this month’s Sun and Moon, both are in fixed signs which offers support, stability, synthesis and the potential for structure.

This February Full Moon holds the energy of Sun in the Air sign of Aquarius and the Moon in the intensity of Fiery Leo. We all know the effects of air on fire, serving to either inflame or to extinguish, so the opportunity lies in our stealthy approach of action (Leo) to whatever we set that breath of Air (Aquarius) towards. The Sun in Aquarius offers the balance of bringing to the forefront (or light of day) those actions and inspirations that will be of benefit to the group and broader community; in contrast to the focus on individual success. The Moon in Leo stimulates change; the firing up of the passions of the emotional tides and the centering of attention on the “me” (the Lunar spotlight in the darkened theater).  The tension between the “we” and the “me” can, if used with just the correct amount of balance and synthesis, produce the ideal combination similar to that of a celebrity who uses their renown taking center stage spotlight to enlist community support for a project to better the lives of those who would have otherwise gone unnoticed held in the anonymity of their needs.

The Full Moon is the phase of peak and expression of the most there is to offer drawn up to a place of expansion from the depths of the emotional and intuitive nature of what has been previously the focus of its transformative work. Because these energies work by default at the subconscious (or often unconscious) levels the “stuff” carried into the full moon’s light is often transparent in its revealing. If this excavation has been done purposefully and with conscious intent the Full Moon works her magick of full disclosure and collaborative change. Using this primary directive filtered through the astrological sign of Leo who is represented as the Lion on the Zodiacal wheel adds the intensity of instinctual action and self-preservation. This is the raw and primal strength of the natural born leader surveying the expanse of the lands that are held within its domain. Arrival at this place of dominance and looming large has been carefully and precisely cultivated by previous successes resulting from the calculated action that will deflect from or draw attention to are part of the stealth needed when navigating the perils of our own emotional landscapes. Despite the pitfalls, this is the time for stepping fully into the glory of what your heart finds of inspiration, adventure and draws attention to your best offerings.

Now the caution to be had in stepping into this potent spotlight is in the added energy of a Retrograde Mercury. The planet, Mercury began its retrograde motion last week on the 6th in the astrological sign of Pisces; a sign of the element Water. Being the great communicator, Mercury’s focus of interaction was fueled from drinking deeply from the depths of the Piscean waters of healing, insight and emotional expression as it transited in its backwards reach into the astrological sign of Aquarius, yesterday, where it will remain until turning direct on February 28th. This retracing of the emotion infused communicative style through Aquarian mind could keep you stuck in bringing to the spotlight (Leo) those inventive ideas inspired by heart (Moon). However, with this opportunity to remain more fully in Mercury’s energy, it is also a good time to really dig deeply into what are the treasures and what are just the masks we put on to gather attention to ourselves as we interact.

This is a good time to re-examine how we present ourselves to the world. What we value as our public persona and what we wish to improve upon so that the image projected communicates more fully who we are. What would have shone brightly during this Full Moon and drawn the magnetic attention that is typical of Leo’s energy may not be what it seems under the influence of Mercury’s duality. Something may be lost in the translation and the tendency towards lackluster replaces what should have been dynamic. Remember that I mentioned in the beginning of this article that the tension of oppositions of Sun and Moon, the “we” and the “me”? Mercury will hold us accountable for re-visiting who we believe ourselves to be. Lady Moon will show us the full potential of that “me”. And Father Sun will call us to our place of community as part of the greater “we”.

As you move through the energy of this Full Moon gathering all of the astrological pieces envision the lion hunting under the brightness of the moon. He remains in the shadows, waiting, observing and calculating just the precise moment that will likely ensure success. From this place of shadow, this skilled hunter emerges into the light; taking action in full speed and full force with power and strength, taking down its prey. He takes his share of what has been killed; leaving behind what will feed others who will scavenge the remains as a result of his dynamic action.

A Poem to Meditate Upon:

fmleo12313

Rest looking out on moon lit waters
Pause anchored strongly in self-knowing
Moon shines on mirrored surface and
Water reaches towards primal force
Majestic in its Power and strength.

Rest looking out on deep expanse
All is your shining domain
The fires of Moon’s glow
Resplendent in its fullness
Lights the way as water’s
Will-filled heart returns to you.

Full Moon in Cancer: Where Waters Flow

Tonight the Moon shines full in the astrological sign of Cancer.  This is a water sign whose ruling planet is the Moon, so the energy is intensely emotional, flowing and healing in its application.  Wherever emotions have dried up, become stagnant or are blocked will be under the watchful gaze of the intuitive moon’s eye.  Cancer is a Cardinal sign giving the additional support to get those waters moving smoothly and unimpeded as the Cardinal action of initializing stirs the murky depths.  The potency of this Full Moon’s energy lies in the ability to connect fully with those aspects of yourself that nurture and feel most like “home” to you.

Being the first Full Moon of the year, there is great potential to reset the template we use to as our emotional response to our surroundings and those people within them.  Cultivating strong and resilient emotional health is an important component in how we attract people and things that nurture and enable us to grow.  A primary and natural directive of Cancer’s flow is to create stability, trust and love so that the individual may move through stormy and calm seas knowing that they are anchored and supported by friends, family and loved ones. An aspect that is often overlooked is that of self-care and self-love and the ability to “mother” yourself. Intuition or the “gut response” is developed when one allows the emotional tides to flow in accord with the natural laws that govern them, rather than setting up barriers and dams that shut down those gates of inspiration.

Venus is still retrograde and the call to reach back to heal relationships and the way in which we are governed by our emotions acts as amplification to the depth of insight to be gathered during a Cancerian Full Moon.  It is this subtle balance between looking back at what has supported and nurtured; releasing what has not and moving what remains into the fullness of Mother Moon’s loving scrutiny. It is the tenderness and ruthlessness of this Mother’s love that creates the multiple streams of flow, opening her children to deeper connection one to the other; yet all deriving their strength and filter from the same Source and space of emotional strength.

When a Full Moon occurs, the Moon and Sun are in opposing astrological signs.  This Full Moon occurs as the Sun is in the astrological sign of Capricorn- the Sea Goat. Capricorn is an Earth sign and its energy is focused on creating stable and structured foundations that enhance the manifest and physical experience. The dynamics of this Cancer (Water)/ Capricorn (Earth) polarity offers opportunity to hold onto that place of structure, strength and anchor (Sun in Capricorn) as we extend our intuitive (Moon) and emotional (in Cancer) nature outward.  Imagine the waters of the ocean as the tides ebb and flow.  As the tide comes in towards the shoreline it brings with it the bounty of whatever has been carried in with it.  These shells, driftwood and sea creatures are caught in the continual flow that incrementally comes closer to the physical anchor of sand and shore.  It enriches and adds to what has been previously accumulated and now acts as foundation. As the tide flows once again towards the immensity and vastness of the ocean, it carries with it some of these newly formed foundations.  Particles of sand and more move out again towards the sea. This is the necessary cycle and this is the dynamics of opposites of movement working to support and enliven the other.

The Water/Earth polarity that is held within tonight’s Full Moon can aid us in bringing into manifestation a balance of self-love and love for others; emotions that are strong and intuitively guided grounded in both earth and Divine wisdom and the reinventing of the place(es) we call home and those we can turn to for support as family.

I would like to share with you a pathworking that may be used during this Full Moon’s energy as part of your personal working.  It engages the elements of earth and sky, moon and your own inner sun of power.

A Pathworking of Release and Empowerment (1.)

Relax your mind and body as you sit in a comfortable position. Close your eyes and take 3 deep breaths; slowly inhaling 1..2..3 and exhaling.. 1..2..3. Allow your body to establish a gentle, even rhythm of breath; taking you to a restful, peaceful state of consciousness.

As your breathing becomes restful allow your consciousness to shift upwards; passing up through the ceiling of the room you are sitting in room and up through the roof of the building. Continue this ascent upwards and out into the moonlit sky. You are aware of the rooftops below and the velvety sky above.

As you travel upwards you become aware of a thick brown and green mist forming around you. You become aware of the smell of rich, loamy, brown earth and you feel the texture and support of soft brown dirt beneath your feet. You realize that you are standing in the midst of a lush green forest with trees forming a canopy above and the support of rich brown earth underfoot. Take a moment to take in the smells, the energy and the feel of this perfect space.

As you look towards the canopy of trees above you are aware of a glowing white orb slowing descending towards you. As this orb of pure white light descends to within arms length, you realize that this place and orb of healing light have been created to bind, contain and transform that which troubles or burdens you.

Now, in this place of perfect grounding and trust, give form to those things that you wish to release.  Give form to those issues and situations which cause you concern. Give form to all that you feel is of challenge and obstacle at this time preventing you from being your highest self. With intent and will reach out, gather these forms together and push them into the center of the brilliance of the sphere in front of you binding them together into this single orb of release.  Once the orb is filled with all that you wish to release, reach out and grasp it in your hands, holding it outstretched and away from you.  Take a moment and take note of the feel and the weight of it. Feel the energy of all that you released to it pulsing within.

Slowly place the sphere into the softness of the earth below, pushing it deep within the ground and allowing the earth to absorb and transform that which has caused you concern. The Great Mother is taking this weight from you and offering you peace and relief.  Brush the dirt from your hands and take a moment to savor the feeling of this lightness of being; of the weight of your burdens no longer a part of your being.

As you think on this, you become aware of something shining in the moonlight, and as you take a few steps forward you realize that it is the reflection of the surface of a small pond a few feet ahead of you. The water sparkles like diamonds in the moonlight and it radiates peace and serenity. You feel that if only you could touch it, and slide into the shimmering liquid that it would wash away all the remaining tension that you have.

Slowly you remove your clothes and drape them over the nearby bush. You step to the edge of the water, sit down on the grass and dangle your feet in the pond, noting that the water is surprisingly warm. The pond is not deep, so you slide in and sit with your head against the bank your head gently resting on the soft grass at water’s edge. As you close your eyes and relax into the warm water you feel all of the tension and concern slipping away; drawn deep into the cleansing waters.  Take a moment and truly feel the peace and calm enveloping you. Rest in the gentle support of the healing waters and feel every cell of your being opening to renewal.

Something gently brushes against your feet and you open your eyes to see that a lily pad is floating towards you with something shiny on it. As the flower moves closer you notice a sparkling powder in the center. You take a little of the powder and wet it. It lathers and foams forming bubbles and you begin to wash your body with the foam. It tingles against your skin, energizing and revitalizing wherever it touches.  Take a moment to relish the feel of this energizing foam and when you are ready slip down into the water and wash the foam from your body. As you wipe the water from your eyes you see that a goblet of fine crystal, filled with a golden liquid has been placed on the grassy edge of the pond. Curious, you take the goblet in your hand and hesitate a moment before lifting it to your lips. You only hesitate a moment because you know that you are in a place of perfect love and perfect trust and that all in this special place are gifts from the Goddess and Her world of Nature.

You slowly tilt the goblet and allow the liquid to flow down your throat and you know intuitively that this is a liqueur of inner strength and self-confidence. The nectar that all have savored who would live their truths and stay strong on their course of purpose. As the nectar fills your being, turn your thoughts to how you would wish to be a stronger person. What truths you would wish to manifest in your life. What the essence of the truth in your heart is and the ways in which you could walk your path in deeper trust and greater love.

As you finish the last drops of liquid you look around and now feel more solid, stable and more substantial and capable of handling any situation which may arise in your life. You gently place the empty goblet on the soft earth and put your clothes on; readying yourself to return to the physical world in a renewed and more loving state. You feel rested and imbued with inner peace. When you are dressed take another look at the pond and know within your heart that this place will always be waiting for you any time you have need. As this thought runs through you and you focus on the inner strength you now feel, you become aware that the pond and forest and earth are beginning to fade from sight. Everything swirling back into an olive colored mist and you feel yourself slowly descending down.  You pass once again through the moonlit night sky and the tops of roofs become more visible as you descend downward.  You pass easily through the outside of the building in which you began this journey and come to rest gently back in the room you started from. You become aware of your physical body resting comfortably in your room and as you gently allow your consciousness to slip back into your physical body you become more aware of the sounds, smells and energies in your space.  Take a few deep breaths and when you are ready gently flutter your eyes open, returning to the here and now.

New Moon-New Year 2014!

New Moon Capricorn

January 1.2014 New Moon in Capricorn   6:14 a.m.

We kick off the New Year with the Moon New in the astrological sign of Capricorn- the Sea Goat. Capricorn is of the element Earth which gives its energy one of foundation, strength and the ability to manifest.  It is a Cardinal sign meaning that its energy is one of initializing and acting as the first outpouring for what will be gathered into form as it flows into the Fixed sign of Aquarius on Thursday afternoon.

This timing offers a triple bolstering of new and vibrant energy to draw from.  The first day of a New Year boasting a New Moon phase in a Cardinal (Beginnings) astrological sign. We are also still in the hold of a Venus Retrograde so, the opportunity to connect the re-balancing of heart (Venus) and weave that energy into the new paths available with a New Moon in an Earth sign are all supportive towards plummeting the depths (Capricorn- Sea) and sure-footedly scaling the heights (Capricorn-Goat) to lay the ground work for lasting and durable change.

Capricorn’s planetary ruler is Saturn, so structure, order and timeliness are keywords for accessing the sea-goat’s energy.  Self-discipline creates the boundaries that can fertilize and inseminate the fertile ground of our manifest form.  The aspect of determination in achieving the goal desired and the appropriate pacing of energy, focus and adequate time for expansion and contraction of that focus establish a rhythm and orderliness that ensures an outcome.  Notice that I did not say positive, as the determination of whether the outcome is positive or detrimental is all in how discipline is applied and the correct timing for the planting of the seeds.  A detriment of Capricorn is that the individual can get so caught up in the process; creating barriers and faulty structures that are self-perpetuated that what should be glorious success withers into frustrated repetition.  This is where Saturn as the Gatekeeper of time exerts his will in stirring up the pot so it can move freely and of its own accord if the lessons are heeded.

A New Moon Working in Capricorn*:

Workings may include: career- ambition-organization- stabilizing- structuring

My intent for this New Moon (New Year) is one of building a solid and heart-centered foundation for personal growth this upcoming year.

NewMoonCapricorn2014

I will light a white candle to illuminate my mind and thoughts as I reach deeply into the stores of memory. I will sit quietly and reflect on what I have carried forward from this past year.  My achievements, my goals and those things that I did not quite hit the mark in the way I had hoped.

I will light a black candle as the fertile space of incubation and setting held within the mask of the New Moon’s shadow of veiling.  I will draw from each of these memories the seeds of new planting to begin the fertile ground for this year. I will breathe my Intent and Will  into this candle and these seeds of aspiration. I envision it as lit from within ready to shine fully and brightly at the next Full Moon.

So Mote it Be!

* A side note.

In astrology, each of the zodiacal signs rules a specific house (1-12) when placed in order around the flat wheel. Capricorn sits as ruler at the place of the Midheaven in the 10th House of  the flat astrological wheel (This is the wheel that follows the order of the Zodiac from Aries in the 1st House counterclockwise around to Pisces in the 12th House and is not associated with anyone’s birth).  The Midheaven is the point in the natal astrological chart where “you shine”. It is the space where recognition for achievement and success are held as potential. Capricorn carries this as  latent energy wherever it shows up.
