Waxing Moon in Libra

Sun in Cancer

July 14

The Moon moved into the astrological sign of Libra at 3:41am.  We have returned to Cardinal energy once again and the opportunity for new stages of thought to be birthed from the lunar waters.  The astrological sign of Libra is of the element of Air- thoughts, intellect, and movement. Today’s energies seemed brighter and lighter than those of yesterday or the previous day.  The Virgoian energy was heavy and dense, like wading through thickened water. And, the void of course energy of yesterday gave pause to that heaviness. I felt supported from below, today there is more of a feeling of lifting upwards.

I awakened feeling refreshed rather than having the clinging heaviness of remaining still for too long. My mind was alert and ready to tackle the day.  Libra’s energy is alert and attentive mind with attention to detail and refinement (similar to that of Virgo), but of taking that analytical state and bringing it to a balance that will stimulate the refinement of your sensibilities and inspire beauty and creativity as the by-products. Libra is ruled by the planet Venus. We equate the energy of this planet with that of unconditional love that has been informed through the process of union and relationship of the mental and emotional aspects of ourselves.  This is the beauty that is derived from the balancing act of Libra. This is the energy I will work on and the lessons I will call forth from this day.

The Moon will remain in Libra the remainder of today and through tomorrow up to 11:18pm when it goes void.  There will be ample opportunity to bring some of this refined state to my intuitive self and use this as a starting point towards moving my emotional self into a place of rare and balanced form. I like the picture below because it is reminder to me of the balance that is achieved within the mirrored reflection of what is solid base of outpouring and the refined, flowing movement of what is flexible and changeable.  It reminds me of the mysteries hidden deeply in  what appears to be cyclical in nature, yet follows a course and path that takes many streams of reaching out so that what is of value to completion of the whole may be gathered back into itself. It reminds me of the beauty in what is perfect in form and fractured and scattered in its iteration; leaving it nonetheless powerful, viable and deeply moving.

It is truly beautiful!
There is a certain
Refinement and grace.

The craftsmanship is expertise
And one can tell that
Great skill and thought
Went into its creation.

You know, they say
That the finest of gold
Was used and each pan
Was polished and leveled.

It’s inner workings were
Lovingly and precisely
Calibrated to the most
Exact measure.

Yes, it is beautiful
This state of affairs
Where heart gives
Way to the uplifting
Of its spirit.

And the rarest and
Most refined of thought
Is poised and balanced
On the luminescent
Polished scales of mind’s
Elegantly created obelisk.

Day Seven: A Bonus Pathworking

July 14

We have made it through the first Seven days of the journey through the Temple of the Moon!   Seven is the number of learning, teachings and paths.  I thought it would be helpful to revisit a pathworking I wrote a while ago.  So, find a quiet space, breathe deeply and enter:

The Hall of Cancer

01a_moonlight_on_the_beach_seaside_fl_thumb

Turn your focus and attention to your breath. Allow the space of your consciousness to move with the rise and fall of your chest and the filling and release of the lungs. Continue in this manner for several breaths; allowing each to become softer, smoother and slower. With each breath your physical body appears to become lighter and your center of consciousness floats upwards towards the inner eye. You feel enveloped by the mist of transition between the Physical and Astral. And as this veil thins you step through a veil of dark blue mist and find yourself standing centrally in a circular room. As you look around you see that this space opens out to a star lit night sky. The velvety blackness above holds a twinkling of starry light that fills the panoramic view above. The walls encircle you and are of a deep bluish purple. As your eyes adjust to this room you notice an archway just ahead of you. The glyph of Cancer, the Crab hovers in the entryway, seeming to glow from an innermost light.

As soon as you step through the archway and the luminous white glow of the Glyph of Cancer the smells of the ocean and its waters permeate your senses. The fullness of moonlight reflects back from water’s edge and there is a sense of stillness and anticipation as the waves gently crest and fall. You feel alive and connected to everything. Your senses are alive with sounds and sights that come in flashes of liquid and heart filled memory. Emotion wells up deep inside of you and the beauty and serenity of this place seems almost more than you can bear. You pause for a moment regaining your composure and take a deep full breath to calm the rising emotions. The scene before you moves you to think back on vacations spent with family and friends at the beach. Cool nights walking barefoot in the moonlight and seeing the familiar and welcoming lights of your summer home. The sounds of laughter spilling like music across the beach and the security and sense of belonging that you so finely crafted within your home.

Feeling content and wanting to spend a bit of time alone, you sit on the cool sand and look out at the moonlit ocean. You feel safe and calm in this setting; almost as though this was precisely the place of energy and state of being that is required to feed and nurture your feeling nature. The sound of the water lapping at the sandy shore creates a mesmerizing and calming feeling within you and scenes of your past experiences pass easily and gently as you close your eyes and relax into the inner screen of your awareness.

You see yourself at the time of meeting your now best friend. You remember the feeling of hesitancy and an awkward shyness at first. This is what you usually feel at first meetings; a little vulnerable and hesitant to share your deep feeling nature. Your friend sensed this reserve and persevered in trying to get to know you and before you knew it trust had been won and you felt at home and at ease sharing your most private thoughts and feelings with this person. Your friend said you were the most loyal and nurturing person they had ever met and that you made them feel more like family than just friends. And, although there were rocky times you have remained loyal and committed to the emotional bond the two of you have. The memories of this time and the longstanding friendship and shared experiences have been deeply treasured.

You also think on a time when you felt so overwhelmed by worry that you retreated for days into your own little world. The normal calm state and kind words that you eagerly shared became sullen answers and silence. This was your mechanism for protecting the vulnerability you felt. You remember the discomfort you felt at reacting this way, wanting to reach out and nurture and heal those around you, but feeling as though there was simply too much to be felt and not enough of you to help relieve the burden of it.

You realize as you think on these two counterpoints how similar they are to the ebb and flow of the waters a few feet away from where you are sitting. The flexibility and sometimes giving fully and at other times retreating back to the larger source for renewal and replenishment are your natural state. Emotions are the waters within you that if they remained never changing would stagnate and dry up. There would be no source to feed the mental processes and no waters of inspiration to draw upon when you are in your most intuitive and creative state. As these last thoughts slowly and fully pass through you a gentle pulse of water brushes the tips of your toes resting on the now damp sand. The tide is coming in and in your reveries you did not notice the movement towards you. It is a reminder to you to remain fully present, even in your place of comfortable introspection. That your emotions can be used to inform and to bring you closer to the serenity of the moment, without having to overcome and overwhelm you.

You stand and breathe in the fresh salty air. You look up towards the fullness of the moon and once again the feeling of safeness and home permeates and floods through you. You look back towards your house and see that the lights have been dimmed a bit and a warm glow shines from each of the windows. Inside are those you love. And, in the cycle of return you feel their love for you. Your best friend has come to visit for the weekend, as well, and you now see someone approaching from the house and calling out to you to come in for a game of scrabble and cup of warm tea. Feelings of gratitude and great care for those in your life fills you and you take one last look at the expanse of ocean.

As you begin to walk towards your friend to answer the call the images slowly fade with each step until once again you find that you are standing centrally in the circular room. You look upwards towards the night sky and see the full moon shining brightly into the Hall. You take a deep breath in and as you exhale, you feel enlivened and at peace in this space of celestial beauty. You know you will visit many times again as the solar months progress and the thought fills you with anticipation of what each of your journeys will reveal.

You gently close your eyes and when you open them you are surrounded by the blue veil of energy that carried you to this inner sky. As you take a few more deep breaths and fill the intent with awareness of your physical being and return to your physical space, the mist clears and the smells, sounds and sights of the room in which you began our journey floods your senses. You feel the floor beneath you and the chair on which you are sitting. Noises of the mundane world come back filling ear and mind with thoughts of going about the rest of your day or evening. You take a deep breath in, savoring the vestiges of your astral journey and the insight it provided, and strongly exhale out affirming your oneness with the present moment of physical time and space.

Blessings of this Journey of your own inner Moon

Waxing Moon in Virgo

Void of Course 11:26am

Sun in Cancer

July13Moon

The Moon is void for most of the day, moving into the astrological sign of Libra at 3:41am-tomorrow morning.

Today is about holding steady, allowing space to integrate and find the beginnings of balance. The finishing touches of Virgo’s analysis and scrutiny in its most mature stage and then repose, rest and stasis.  Wanting to stay under the wire.

No pushing, no effort . Just simply allowed myself to settle in to a day of coalescing and riding the wave of the status quo that has been created from these past days work.  I held no expectations and did no reaching out beyond what came to me in the natural flow of the day’s energies.

Feeling like just floating on a surface that is placid and calm in complete surrender; but beware of the undertow!

Tomorrow morning I will be posting a Pathworking written for energy of Cancer as a bonus to use as you will throughout the remainder of this journey. This will be in addition to the usual evening post.  Enjoy!

Today the moon stands fully under the grace of the astrological sign of Virgo. Remember on its qualities is that of flexible expansion thus making it both the ending and the germinating space for what follows. I had some quiet time to myself today at home and I took the time to look around at the physical space our family had created.  I tried to open to how I felt about various items that held a place of memory and unravel the complexity of those feelings and the way in which they intertwined with those of my family connected to them.

Virgo’s ruling planet is Gemini. One of the actions of Geminian energy is that is awakening the creative potential of mind through the process of outward expression. Placed in action upon the mental/emotional self there is great potential to reveal what truly matters in your life and how to express the value of those gifts.  As physical beings we have great capacity for mental process expressed through love.  This feels like a good day to call upon this energy and support to take a closer look at what is really important to me.

I pulled each thought and emotion up as threads of all that went into their making as they wind tightly around.  I called upon the energy of the Moon to sort and clear away those that were simply illusions of what the real feelings were.  As I sat in this meditation I saw myself smiling in contentment  at the life I had created for myself. I saw all those I loved and cherished surrounding me hearts open and love reaching outward from each to the other and to me.  I saw glowing around my neck a gift of the Goddess. A strand of opalescent pearls, droplets of love infused water strung one to the other on an ephemeral strand of moonlight silk.  Each held one of the cherished memories I had carefully selected and each was with me always.

Waxing Moon into Virgo

Sun in Cancer

Slide1

The lunar energies continue with the last vestiges of Leo’s energy until 3:54pm when the moon goes void.  A 6:12p.m. lady moon moves into the astrological sign of Virgo.  Virgo is of the Earth element and Mutable in quality.  Those signs that are Mutable offer the the greatest flexibility, having received the pressure of form and coalescence from the fixed state and act to continue the cycle in an expansive more pliable way.  The earthy element of this moon is the place that remains steadfast and has potential to act as container for the flow of watery emotions, giving them permeable form and structure.  Virgo is the great analyzer and organizer.  It is her energy that scrupulously and meticulously makes sense of what could become chaos.  It’s ruling planet is Mercury- the great communicator, so I want to tap into that flow of communication between my intuitive nature and my responsive feeling active self.

When I had an opportunity at lunch break to focus more fully on what I was feeling, the surrounding energy felt thicker and heavier than I had noted yesterday.  There was a sense of stickiness as I walked kind of like what I would imagine it would feel like to walk between two lint rollers ( and no it wasn’t because of the humidity LOL!) Whereas yesterday felt energized and prickly it was more of a constant state of alert vs. simply being more aware.

I am looking to this energy to soothe and settle some of the flares from the Leo energy. There is a sense of a cooling down period so that what I boiled up to the light in the previous days’ energies can now take shape into something that will be solidly anchored. I am also sending the intention of using the energy of this being the 4th day of waxing moon.  FOUR being the number of equilateral foundation. All sides, angles and perspectives in balanced support of one another.  Body- Mind- Heart and Will holding the enlivened liquid of the deeper mysteries of my own flexible and fluid nature in a manner that will allow for maximum growth.

An interesting side note going back to yesterday.  I received an email this morning that a writing project of mine had gone live yesterday.  This project is going to encourage me to dig deeper into my personal feelings than my usual writing does and connect with the reader in a slightly different way.  Makes me think about the peak energy of Leo Moon yesterday and one of the Leo attributes of center-stage and in the spotlight.  Add the emotional/personal equation of the writing and today’s email to ground and settle my emotions into a more productive form.

Day Three: Fire in the (W)Hole

Waxing Moon in Leo

Sun in Cancer

Slide1

My day began early this morning with a moon darkened 5:00a.m. drop off at the airport of my daughter and a spectacular sunrise of a firey ball of red-orange sun orb.  The first thing that came to mind during this transition from dark to light was the glow of heat and shadow of sculpted clay seen in the small window of a kiln (my eldest daughter is an artist).  The rest of the morning was colored by these same thoughts and image that returned mid-day.

As I was out walking at lunch I was thinking about the elemental correspondences of the Moon (Water) being in a Fire sign (Leo) today.  And, the flip of that energy with the Sun (Fire) being in a Water sign (Cancer) for half of this month.  Additionally, the moon is in the sign of Leo for the entirety of the day. So, this feels like just the beginnings of firing up the Will of the Emotional self and seeing what creative product will emerge from that kiln.

Slide1

I have also been thinking about the connection of the the Sacral Chakra to the Moon and the Solar Plexus Chakra to the Sun.  When I did the New Moon Ritual of Dedication I naturally felt the stirrings of the energetic opening at the place of the Sacral Chakra- this being the space of creativity, birthing waters and womb.  It was palpable and I encouraged the flow and placed my awareness in this space of container to be informed by the work to be undertaken.

With this in mind, today I opened to moving this energy up into and co-mingling with that of the Solar Plexus- the seat of Will and Fires of quickening. I envisioned this action as that of the Firey Moon enlivening and deepening the energy of those Sacral Waters and acting as a furnace of tempering for emotions that were supportive of the Whole of my being.

Astrologically, my natal Jupiter and Pluto are in the sign of Leo. So, I called upon these energies to expand (Jupiter) and deepen those mysteries that lay unseen (Pluto) so they could be drawn up to the surface, fired in the container of applied Will and become productive pieces in this journey. Was this potent lunar fire causing similar effects in others?

So, here’s the interesting thing. A lot of people seemed more antsy today with a “me first” attitude. Will and emotions are tricky things, however, especially when you are trying to observe and formulate conclusions.  Just how much of this perception I had was my own willing it to be because I was consciously looking for the connection to the fiery application of Leo on the waters of emotion? And, I am reminded that everything I see, learn, teach and observe is filtered through my own layers of experience and expectations regardless of the quantity of the real validity of what is being observed.

I will record these impressions, holding in reserve the notion that they are both accurate and biased and move on from there.  This, is of and in itself a step in the right direction towards opening more deeply to the emotional waters and tides.  The accuracy I am acknowledging comes from the analysis of the mind; BUT the admittance of bias comes directly from the opening of the heart to that possibility.

Day One: Flowing Through the New Moon

New Moon in Cancer

Sun in Cancer

Jul8

Those They Hold Dear

By the light of the moon
they move in the thousands
Each intent on its course
Each guided by ancient
instincts and the call of
the Mother to return home.

The first seeds of yearning
for that which cannot
be easily revealed and
emotions sway to and fro
caught within the confines
of loyalty and trust.

These are the first two stanzas of a poem I wrote several years ago when opening to connect with the energies of the astrological sign of Cancer. I read through this and the feelings that flowed today were those I felt when writing this and my emotions were strong anchored in the feelings of home, family and the security these offered. Today these same feelings bubbled to the surface and rather than pushing them aside I surrendered and laid back into those soothing waters.

Astrologically the New Moon occurred at 3:14am and then went to void of course through the remainder of the day until 6:48a.m. tomorrow morning as it passes into the sign of Leo.  In basic terms it is the time between the ending of the moon being held within the energy of one astrological sign and it’s transition towards the next. Typically, this period of time is highly unfavorable for magickal workings or decision making because of the unstable and unpredictable energy that results. Think of it as someone hurriedly trying to change from the at home grunge clothes to a night on the town outfit.  Several try ons occur in trying to decide which will be the best garb of transformation. A hasty decision is made selecting what promises to be the best choice and then mid way through the drive to the fancy restaurant, regrets set in on the choice made. It seemed right at the time!

In line with this more agitated energy I awoke bursting with a need to connect with others; which given my usual state of wanting to be alone was different.  It was not concrete in directive but rather like the excited anticipation that something was about to change and of knowing the potential for reaching out was just beginning a course that could offer me the ability to balance my emotional self and my logical mind. In fact, I had two experiences where strangers struck up conversations and then proceeded to pour their hearts out about family and home matters and through no prompting by me.  It made me realize how simply being more aware of a conscious intent to engage from a heart-centered state attracted that same quality in others an produced a different level of satisfaction that was much deeper than my usual analytical and hurried state.

I like to layer things as a way to understand and see various perspectives of all of the work I do, magickal and mundane.  So, please bear with these side notes and bits of related information.  I also realized that this is a way in which I can “feel” my way through whatever the focus of observation is. If the overlay feels right, then go with it and see where it takes you. Think of this as the ebb and flow of the lunar tides.  We extend out beyond the comfort and safety of the shores; retrieve the bits and pieces that get caught in the buoyancy and then bring them back to shore for closer look and/or to be enjoyed by the shell collector walking the beach.  The point is that the beach is still the beach and the waters are still the same waters, but now each has more deeply informed and impressed itself on the other creating something new, yet still individual in its basic nature.

So, here come some bits from the larger ocean. Each of the seven days of the week are assigned a planetary energy. Monday, or “Moon”day’s ruler is the moon adding an extra dose of lunar energy to an already potent day. More about this in a future post.  And, the sun has been in the sign of Cancer for 18 days now; the solar heralding in the new astrological sign approx. 15-19 days prior and the Moon seeming to catch up just at the apex of solar astrological energy.  I guess one could think of this as will maturing before emotions catch up. And, by the time the emotional self reaches mid-point, will renews and transforms into the next evolutionary stage of consciousness and a new astrological sign. We will see this transition on the 22nd of this month and the movt. of the sun into the sign of Leo.

Don’t forget to journal your experiences and feel free to share through the comments option!  Blessings of a restful night.

Note:  I am going to try to post in the evening as near to the planetary hour of the Moon (or Mercury-Communication) as possible and whichever is slightly earlier. More about planetary hours in a few days.

Tonight I will do my ritual of dedication to the work of the lunar month ahead.  As I move through each day and the cycle of waxing to waning I’ll be using the information below to inform my observations and enliven the lunar connection.

The Phase of the Moon and Tides of Lunar Magick

The Waxing Moon is the time between the New Moon and the Full Moon

The Waning Moon is the time between the Full Moon and the last day of the last quarter- just prior to the New Moon

Although Magickal working can be done at any time, there are specific times during the lunar cycle when your workings can be enhanced.  One of the first considerations is what type of energy you want to use for your intent.

The waxing of the moon, from New to Full, provides a crescendo or building effect and the waning of the moon from peak of Full to the subsequent New Moon allows for release and diminishing of energetic effect.  The New Moon is a time of beginnings and first seeds towards growth. New projects, goals and behaviors are all supported when given focus during this time. The Full Moon is the peak and product of all efforts begun at the New Moon.  Additionally, any working that needs extra push, magnification or energetic boost, will benefit from Full Moon energy.   The span of time from completion of the Full moon, up to and including approximately the next New Moon is the optimal time for release, cutting away and inner preparation.  These 3 days prior to the next New Moon are also known as the Dark Moon phase.

In practice, how could I make the most of these phases?  Suppose I want to seek new employment.  On the New Moon, I may do a meditation, plan, brainstorm and journal about the type of work I may wish to acquire. I may even, physically plant a few seeds in a pot as concrete visual symbols of my intent.  Each day thereafter I will tend the seeds- mentally and/or physically- enriching them with more concrete ideas and goals for obtaining my ideal work.   On the Full Moon, I will give thanks for the new growth in my life towards my goal. Perhaps do a meditation, visualizing in as much detail as possible my future work surroundings, myself enjoying and looking forward to each day, etc.  And, finally as the moon wanes and the days prior to the next New moon approach, I spend some time identifying and releasing any negative thoughts, words or actions that are preventing me from bringing into manifest reality my goal.  This release may take any form as long as the symbolic or actual release is something you can strongly connect with, and is of harm to none.  This or a similar cycle may need to be repeated several lunations, depending on your goal, the strength of your focus and intent and ability to truly release that which may be holding you back.

A reminder, however, is that every magickal working requires physical action to bring it into manifestation.  No matter how much intention I place into a working to obtain a new job, if I don’t physically look through want ads, send out resumes and actively job search, the completion of the circuit of magick will never be successful in outcome.

So, keeping this information in mind, as we move through the lunar month and the change from one phase to the next, remember that your actions and interactions in the mundane and completely physical world are just as important as your yearning for the ephemeral and spiritual realms.

Temple of the Moon: Ritual of Dedication

Cropped Image

Why a day early for the New Moon Ritual?

The prime effects of lunar magick are felt in the surge of power as one cycle of phase flows one into the other.  Work specific to the energy of a New, Full or Dark Moon is therefore most effective in approx. the 24-36hrs leading to the peak point of phase.  Working in this way allows the intent and energy that has been put forth to be carried through to its peak point of anchor for the energetic construct you want to use.

We will be doing three workings in accord with the New- Full and Dark Moon. For these you will want to establish sacred space and have an altar set up. We will be using candles to anchor the intent and flow of lunar energies and then reconnecting with each daily as we journal our experiences of the day.  The altar may left in place for the duration of this journey or set up with each of the rituals. The daily re-lighting of the candle requires only the candle itself placed on table or desk as you journal.

The ritual crafted below is the first of our three and is very simple in its set-up, but very powerful as a tool of connection and anchor for the study ahead.

New Moon Ritual of Dedication

You will need:

1/Silver (or Black) Candle  (New Moon)

1/White Candle (Full Moon)

1/Black Candle (Dark Moon)

Black and white altar cloths

Journal and Pen to be dedicated to record your experiences.  Be sure to choose a journal you will love to use and/or decorate it in any way that is representative of your intention on this journey.

IMG_1499

Set up your altar space with the black cloth on top of white.  This represents the New Moon phase with promise of full and waxing of its light coming to peak.  The candles should be arranged in triangular shape with the White candle at center point, Silver candle as left base and Black candle on right side forming the base.  The Silver candle on the left represents the New Moon phase (1st Quarter Waxing), the White – the Full Moon and the Black candle on the left- the Dark Moon (Last Quarter Waning).

The journal and pen can be placed in front of the triangular candle formation.

IMG_1500

Establish sacred space in whatever way is in keeping with your path.

Invoke the assistance of whatever Deity, guides or patrons you work with to inform and enliven this journey.

Standing in front of your altar begin by lighting the silver candle.  As you light this candle offer up words stating your intention of embarking on this new moon journey to deepen your connection to the lunar energies.  Leave the white and black candle unlit for now.   They will be lit at the Full and Dark moon workings later in the month.

Envision the orb of the blessed Moon shadowed now but shining brightly still despite the illusion of its shading.  Open and allow yourself to connect deeply to the image of the waters of moon’s flow gently holding you as you are carried with the ebb and flow of the tides. Soften your gaze and see the strand of light that flows from the flame o the Black candle as it reaches out to connect with the center of your being.  Envision this as the continual stream of informed connection that will be the place of deeper gnosis of the Moon and her mysteries.  Take a deep breath in and allow this energy to move through you.  Flowing like water, reaching every point of your being.  Exhale long and slowly sending that energy back into the circuit that is forming between you and the energy you have called forth to permeate this candle.  Breathe in this manner of receipt and release, ebb and flow for as long as you feel is needed; ending with a long exhale.

Sharpen your gaze and return back to clarity of focus looking at all three candles.  As you move your gaze from one to the other offer up words of intent:

Tomorrow, at the time of the New Moon the energies I have set into motion this evening will flow forth and my opening to the energies of the moon in all of her phases will move in accord with HER cycles. So Mote It Be!!

Breathe deeply into these words (or those of your own) and see them as being held in witness by the guides, deity or others you called into to assist this rite.

Offer up thanks to those you invoked to join in this ritual, and bid them hail and farewell.  Ground and release your sacred space, again, in whatever way is in keeping with your path. And, lastly, snuff out the flame of the New Moon candle.  I have purposefully had you do this after the release of sacred space as symbolic act of carrying these energies back into the mundane world of expression to be used and accessed on all levels of being.

You will light this candle each night connecting to its energies and adding to these from your own energetic experiences.  Continue to do this up to the eve of the Full Moon (another ritual and dedication and lighting of the White candle) as you write your impressions of the day.

Blessings on your journey as we walk this road together!

Note:  In the pictures you will see that there is a dark blue sphere I have placed in front of the White candle. It is a Goldstone sphere that I routinely use as anchor to connect with the celestial energies. If you would like to know more about the properties of Goldstone (actually man-made glass with copper suspended within), check out the article from the blog listed below.  If you wish to add a crystal that you have resonance with as lunar in nature, please feel free to add to your altar

Preparing to Enter the Temple of the Moon

The countdown begins with only 5 more days till we enter the Temple of the Moon. The intent of this month’s long journey is an exploration in the varied energies that flow through any given lunar (not calendar) month as the moon cycles through its astrological and lunar phases; beginning with the New Moon. The daily postings will reflect my impressions of the energy of the day and of time spent each day in consciously opening to the subtleties and nuances in change and flow. I chose to begin this study with the New Moon in the astrological sign of Cancer, whose ruling planet is the Moon. The astrological sign of Cancer is typified by its Cardinal (the beginning or initial surge) modality and the flow of emotion and the intuitive nature. Additionally, the Sun is also in the astrological sign of Cancer, lending its strength and lighting the way with its solar fires. More about the energies of astrological Cancer in the New Moon daily post on July 8th.

Remember, that with any journey such as this, the impressions presented are solely those of the writer or teacher and filtered through complex layers of personal experience, knowledge base, biases and level of expertise. So with that being said, I offer up my thoughts that they may serve to prod you to look at bit deeper at what we call the lunar energy and influence. A New Moon Ritual of Dedication to this journey will be posted on Friday, July 5th to give you time to prepare for its working on the eve of July 7th. It is good practice to begin any exploration that encompasses more than just a cursory observation with a formal action of intent. This can take whatever form you wish and be as simple as lighting a single candle of declaration or performing a small personal ritual. Do what feels right for you and is in accord with your particular spiritual path. I would suggest that you journal your own experiences. The time spent in this action will reinforce the connection you are building and will be an invaluable resource to return to as you progress in your lunar workings.

Check back on Friday July 5th for a New Moon Dedication Ritual to be done on July 7th.
